Hi everyone! I'm brand spanking new to soapmaking, a bit old to call myself a virgin but nevertheless, to soapmaking I am angel. I was given a bar of m&p last year as a firstfoot present on Hogmany, loved the scent, Googled, it and here I am. I've just made my first batch of m&p, easy peasy! Really chuffed with myself but then again,it's not too hard anyway. I'm now trying to get the courage up to do what all you ladies do so well and go on to the hard stuff! Although I have to say and ask, is there a bit of snobbery about m&p soap? I've been on other sites and it seems to be the case on them. That's why I've plucked up the courage to come on this site as it doesn't seem to happen on here! And you all seem to be a friendly bunch! Anyway I'll go now as I think I've rambled on too much already and I wanted to make a good first impression Grin Grin Grin
Oh! by the way, my name is Helenm.

HP Soap is NOT rough and soft!

Hello Helen.

Welcome, you'll find no snobbery about MP soap here - that would be impossible when you see what some of the members produce; it can be so much more than taking a base and adding a bit of colour and a bit of fragrance.

There's a wide range of stuff you can add to a plain base (without having to buy the honey, goatsmilk bases).

Take a good look around.

Thanks Elaine, I've been scouring through everyones photo's and I'm just amazed at what they can produce and it's really hard to tell which is which. Thats why I've decided to come here as it's about the friendliest site I've seen. And would you believe it's taken me about 11 months to pluck up the courage to come on here Grin Grin Grin

Thank you again Elaine for the warm welcome!!

Welcome, yes its nice and warm in here, i dont know much about soap but i understand what you mean about the snobbery with m&p although thats all i make, a simple homemade melt and pour. i haven't been adventurous at with them.

Hi Helen,

First of all I have to say....  ooh goody, now there's two of us, I can deny all knowledge of any naughtiness and blame it on the other Helen  :mwaha:

Helen, you HAVE to see some of Sue G's work, it is outstanding (as are many others - just amazing!!).  I'm not an experienced soaper but have dabbled a bit in each and I still say, M&P is the most tricky to me, when you try to anything beyond the basics (and even the basics can present a few problems).

I am so pleased you have plucked up the courage to post and the more you post, the more boards will open up to you so you will be able to see and participate in more  Wink

Anyway, a warm welcome from me, I do hope you enjoy it here  Smiley

Hi Helen (that's a bit strange!)  Nah! you're not blaming me for your naughtiness, I'll have enough of my own, thankyou very much!!! Grin Grin Grin.
Nice to meet you Helen! I've been looking at loads and I'm very impressed at all the wonderful stuff you've all produced and I think it'll be a long time before I'm up to that standard, but hey, I'll keep on trying!! Smiley Smiley Smiley

Thank you so much JoJo for your warm welcome. Yes i think I'll have to watch the other Helen. I can't think of another name just now, I think I'm having a "CRAFT" moment, I run a Karaoke and play a bit of the Bohdran so maybe somthing along those lines would do. Any suggestions anybody?
Thanks again JoJo Smiley Smiley

Bohdran!

I bought one on holiday last year and still haven't sat down to get myself started. Can you recommend a goodly video/DVD so I can watch with slow down, stop, start and rewind (people don't have the buttons to press).

i don't of any dvd or video, but just pick the thing up, hold the beater like a pen and turn your wrist into the drum and start beating away, you'll soon find your own rythym. I'm self taught and go across to dublin quite alot and pick up tips there from the experts!!! although I have to say some guinness or kilkenny seems to help you play better!! hope that helps Smiley Smiley
