Soap is an Art form - Live to soap

WWW
« on: June 04, 2008, 03:51:26 AM »

Hi Everyone,

Just found this forum, thought I would join as it looks like a really nice place to chat. I am from Australia, live in the bush and make soap and bodycare full time. I look forward to meeting new people and helping out where ever I can. Haven't had much time to look around at this point but thought I better introduce myself before I posted anywhere. I have a blog www.soapobsession.blogspot.com and also a website www.platypusdreams.com.au in case anyone wants to have a peek.

Cheers Sharon

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I don't do the forum thing much, mostly I am on yahoo groups so please be gentle with me. Most of my time my head is in a soap pot, pretty much 7 days a week. lol. This is my time off for me, chatting on the forum, answering emails. But I love it, what would I say well it's a passion making things. Passion, corny I know, but it's true. Thanks for the lovely comments and nice words on my stuff, I put a lot of effort into it and my customers love it. I am always trying to come up with new things and ideas.

I will have to check out what you guys are upto in the soapy world over your way, it's night time here. I bet it's getting a little warmer for you all over your side of the world. Here it's getting cooler, some of my soapy friends down south have been telling me that the weather is miserable, cold, overcast etc. I don't get that much cold here mainly overnight but in summer it's a stinker and really humid, we also get lots of rain. But with this cooler weather it means that soaping gets a little different, more insulation for gel, warming oils etc...

I look forward to chatting and getting to know you all more. Cheers Sharon
Off to check out some other topics on the forum.

So you could safely say then Sharon that you are a self-confessed soapaholic then (there's a few of them around here) :mwaha:

As for warming up a bit here... hmmmm.  Well, it is warmer than what it was in December but not all that much warmer  :mwaha:  I say this but it is actually a lovely sunny morning where I am and I have all the windows open - which is contrast to the last few days where the heavens have just opened.  The flowers look quite happy today though  Wink

Hello Sharon,

Welcome to the forum - I think you're going to get asked a lot of questions from soapers here as many are starting on the obsession.

I will try to answer questions.

Soapaholic - you bet big time, when the fun goes out of it that is when I lay my stick blenders down to rest. lol until then  Pot

Jo Jo:  RTDWCP that will help you. Took me close on 6mths and many stuffed batches to get tops like that. You have to get to know each soap blend intimately, they all act differently. The oil blend, the fo or eo blend, how fast it traces/sets up. Patience is the key to this, play with it until it looks like merangue on top. You are playing with a super thick trace once it starts setting up in the mould remember the middle of the mould gets hotter first and sets up first.

Sharon: If you want Platypus Dreams uk go for it, doesn't bother me. I was going to use Platypus Dreaming or Dreamtime but thought better of it, they might have then thought it was aboriginal paintings or something, so I left that business name here for our indigenous folk to have if they wanted. I thought it only fair. We have platypus only 30mins away and they live naturally in the wild. So it's and animal from my area. There is already one with the .com registered in the US at least it's not soap related.

Charley: You should have dropped me a line, I have others that I have helped out over time and I don't mind. One who even phoned me form the US and we have become good friends. She no longer soaps due to family commitments, the energy needed to make this work as a business and now she is my drop shipper in the US for suppliers who won't send stuff to OZ.

If I am on the forum and around and I can help with soapy related questions I will try and help. By no means am I a guru I learn new things all the time and sometimes I just about rip my hair out over things as well. Arh the challenge of it all, I just love it.  Smiley Cheers Sharon

You guys are great.  Group hug
