As spin-off of the other thread, I checked as per Lindy's suggestion, and an order of 20 moulds qualifies for 25% discount, taking the cost of the standard mould to £4.

I haven't asked for a postage quote yet until I see if there is any chance enough people are interested - so there would be US postage on that, plus the postage from me to you if you are not close enough to collect.

Plus an order that size there is a reasonable likelihood of it being stopped at customs and vat added.

So the moulds are probably not going to work out massively 'cheaper' than buying them here, the main advantage would be gaining access to the full range, only a fraction of which seem to be available in the UK.

If anyone is interested let me know, and how many moulds you might be likely to want.

You will be charged duty on anything you bring in to the UK that's worth more than £18, unless it's duty free like mica powder (and the day they calculate the exchange rate can make a difference).

I really like some of the moulds, but I don't get on with plastic moulds. I can never get them out properly  

I'd be interested though I do worry about import tax..

maybe someone who imports regularly can confirm - but as I remember when stuff is stopped at customs they just add the VAT and an admin fee?

For those that haven't used their moulds, or have problems with plastic moulds, use a little bit of mineral oil to wipe the mould with.  Make sure you get into the crevices.  I actually have a small paint brush that I use and then I wipe the excess off with a paper towel.  Since I started doing that I have no problem getting them out.  The other thing I find it that I do need to leave them in for a couple of days since I'm not forcing gel.

I ruined enough plastic moulds before learning that trick.  The other one I've heard about & just tried for the first time is to use candle mould release spray (silicone) and the soap released fabulously....

If you go on the uk gov customs site (can't remember its proper name) there's loads of info.  If you can't quite figur it out phone them.  I called them when I was buying mica and they were VERY helpful

This is what I found. 20 moulds at the discount rate would be less than the £135.

We would be liable for VAT though.

So allowing for currency fluctuations the cost would be approx £5 per mould plus postage from US. The ones from JAS are just under £8 including vat.

So it looks like ordering direct from the US would be still slightly cheaper, through I haven't got a postage quote as didn't want to waste their time if there was not enough interest.

It won't be SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper though, I think as I said the only real point would be to get the access to the full range.




All other goods
If you order or send purchased goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you:
don't have to pay Excise Duty
may have to pay Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135
will have to pay import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £15
Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under.
