I know that SP used to have some safety labels, but are there any regulations that must be followed when labelling wax melts? Or is it up to the crafter to ensure that there is sound safety advice given?

There was something about the "normal" warnings concerning not leaving a candle burning and around kids and pets and such. Just can't remember where I read it. Am too jet-lagged to even start remembering... sorry.

Melts is a funny one maybe because you are not 'technically' selling anything you can set alight.

But I think the standard candle message variation of the 'this is a flame try not to burn down your house you cretin' would be fine - a lot of places sell them pre-printed quite cheaply.

Sorry for sarcasm but this is one of the 'health and safety' issues of modern society that hacks me off.

If someone is dumb enough to leave their house with candles burning I fail to see why it is my responsibility to pay for a label to inform them they shouldn't do this - nanny state -

sorry off soapbox. I think I got my labels from whicksandwacks

LOL Iulia *hugs* You sound like me! Exactly the kind of rant I like to have regularly Tongue

I've been playing with labels, and have come up with:

"Place a melt or two into the top of an oil/tart burner.
Do NOT add water.
Light a tealight candle underneath the burner dish.
Place on a heatproof surface.
Enjoy the fragrance!

Never leave a burning candle unattended, or within the reach of children or pets"

Sound good?

That sounds perfect, Kelly! If the melts are fragranced with anything "edible-smelling", I'd add something like "Not for consumption".

Because you just KNOW that someone will try to take a bite out of something small and yummy-smelling! :mwaha:
