Hi, Dave here - just popping in to introduce myself.  I am not a 'Cosmeholic' but have made a couple of stamps for members here so thought I would come and be nosey and maybe answer any questions about the stamps or laser cutting/engraving in general.

Thanks to Helen for letting me in ;-)

Forgot to say it is thanks to Bonitta Graphics who started me off with the idea - thanks Bon x

HP Soap is NOT rough and soft!

Hello Dave - I had a quick look at your site just the other night and am seriously thinking about a couple of stamps.

(possibly plus some non-soapy items for prezzies).

Hi EJ,

Thank you - I have not been doing the stamps long so would be interested in any feedback as I am always trying to find ways to improve.  Also if anyone who would like to help me develop a cold pour mould (may even work for candles) let me know.

Best

A base plate for a log mould - to give a relief pattern/design - is something I've often wondered about.

I'm assuming thet the laser cutter responds to greyscale for depth variation - am I right or wandering down the wrong track?

Some lasers may do but mine doesn't - it has a power control so you can dial in the power and get the depth you require accross the whole image. A picture ends in a sort of 2 diamention effect rather than 3D -  if you know what I mean.

Do you use something to help ease the soap out of the moulds? I was thinking about stacking acrylic sheets with the shapes cut out (the laser I have cuts to about 5mm in acrylic) but not sure if the soap would be strong enough to cope with separation.  I can't see a problem if the bottom layer had a design as it is not a lot different to am upside down stamp.

Hi Dave and welcome. Smiley
I was on your site also a few days ago. I need a stamp or two. Didn't see much info or examples, understandable now as you're not long doing them. Would you mind telling in us which format you would need info, and any other relevant details that we need to know.

Hi Rose,

Thanks I will be updating my website and will add a section just for soap stamps ;-)

I can cut a stamp into acrylic using a laser cutter,  all I need is the design or logo and the size you require which I will use to produce the stamp.   I send a draft for you to approve the size before I cut the stamp.  So far most logos reproduce quite well.  If for any reason it doesn’t I will let you know before you pay.

The price for a stamp for a normal size bar is £13.50 including P&P

I take PayPal BACS or cheques, and my T&C's are on my website here and an order form here

Thanks

I get you - "shading" would have to be hatching.

To have an outline to impress into a soap the laser would cut out the background outside the "line" and the inside.

A lining paper or film is generally used - there are acrylic log moulds and I understand these need a release agent of some sort. I have a slab mould in ?acrylic? with dividers and I put clingfilm on the base; I have no problem lifting out the dividers.

Soap comes away from silicone with no problem.

Do you do an L to R flip or would you require a mirror image?
