I agree.  You can buy a cutter for the average hobbyist from Canada here http://www.creationsfromeden.com/ or you can buy one from the US here http://www.forcraftssake.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=7_9.  I bought the hobby quickcut and I love it!

I wish I could afford the one that Dean makes, it would make my life so much easier, but I can't, at least not right now... :mwaha:

I know of a couple of people who have made their own cutters and if you have woodworking skills it might be worth trying.  I can tell you the wires are the high E string for guitars...

Cheers

I've got one too. I can cut 360 bars in two hours with it.

Hi Earthkandi, I appreciate your reply. 'Negative' replies are good! Helps us see how we might better meet soap maker's needs, if possible. On the cost of moulds, well the moulds we make are designed so that the soap slab fits the cutter accurately so that in turn, the bars of soap are accurately cut. That means some care has to be taken in making the mould which inevitably means that the cost is higher than it would be if just 'knocked' together. Also, the moulds are made with a very slight taper so that de-moulding can be done without taking the mould apart. We use HDPE material for our moulds which accounts for about 40% of the cost but we understand that many soap maker's want long mould life and HDPE gives that..Onto the cutter, we don't think the cutter is 'fiddly' since 48 bars of soap can be cut in about 2 minutes. Check this youtube link out and you'll see how quick it is Wink http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE9k5EM5id8&feature=related
