Title: Dog shampoo with flea-repelling essential oils
Post by: Denise on June 26, 2010, 04:12:13 PM
I saw this for sale on EBay and was about to buy it but thought that one of my forum friends may do it and I could buy from them. Anyone?  :)

That's spooky, I was looking at the Fragrant Pharmacy in Waterstone's earlier today and it was talking about something like this. :mwaha:

Possibly SueG makes it? She's a dog groomer also - check out Soapychica online to find her store and maybe drop her an email?

Thanks Honey, I'll check them out. OH bought the dog shampoo we're using at the moment.....pina colada scented stuff, which I don't like at all! I do like the idea of flea-repellant essential oils.

:mwaha:  Why on earth would a dog need to smell like a Pina Colada??? That is utterly bizarre!  :mwaha:

Isn't it just! We have two Jack Russells - every Saturday OH takes them out for a full day's fun in the countryside andf they come back filthy and desperate for a bath. They come home smelling of cow muck and the like, have their bath and then smell like cocktails for a couple of days  ;D

Those poor dogs. Their sense of smell is one of their most senstive parts. Just cos we like cocktails doesnt mean the poor dogs do. Im sure theyd rather smell like sheep or fox pooh :mwaha:

No its not a suggestion.........

The way Rosie rubs her neck in every bit of pooh she can find, I'm sure you're right  ;D

Neem oil is widely recommended in canine and equine circles for repelling fleas etc.

Re soap - I'd need to check the pH for dogs,

Re soap - I'd need to check the pH for dogs,

I hadn't thought of that Elaine - it doesn't have to be a liquid shampoo does it, it could be a shampoo bar?

If you would like to try one of my guinea pig shampoos I'd be happy to send you some - they are regularly used by humans that have both dogs and guineas!  All are SLS / Paraben free.

At the moment I'm trying to test one of them out as I've been told by a dog groomer that it removes the smell of fox poo.  However.....since sending the shampoo out to the testers, not one of the dogs has rolled in fox poo despite it happening regularly before, but one did a roll the day before the shampoo arrived. :mwaha:

I'm not sure re pH at all but I do know that there are many EOs which are contra-indicated for dogs.

It doesn't matter whether it's a bar or liquid shampoo as both would be easy to use on a short-haired dog but I think a liquid would be easier with a long-haired dog.

Chrissie has done an aromatherapy for animals course so you can trust her stuff!!

(there's no SA requirement for animal cosmetics).

thats how it works - the moment you have the shampoo at home, dogs will no longer roll in Fox Poo - effectively removing the smell of fox poo from your dog  :mwaha:

Wish it would work for cats - mine likes to roll in engine oil and fox poo, but unless I want to spend my evening in A&E he will not get a bath - rub down with baby wipes is as far as it gets and he is getting wise to that one as well by now.

None of my testers can believe what's happened!

madpiano: I don't envy you with a cat - they are a totally different ball game and not to be messed around with, plus essential oils and cats don't mix.
