Title: wickless candles
Post by: halfabubbleoffplumb on April 11, 2010, 07:58:12 PM
I saw these in a shop yesterday -  a 4in. dia. flat tin filled with heavily scented soy wax. The directions just said take off the lid and enjoy... has anyone made these? I'd like to but if I can't get enough scent from them I won't bother. They were made by a local chandler, not a big commercial company. Is there a trick to it in order to add more fragrance or is it just basically a wax melt in a tin? Thanks!

I've tried them, there basically just a wax melt in a small jar or tin, i added the same amount of FO as i would to a tart. I suppose it's a bit more portable than a wax melt. It'd be much easier to switch fragrances by removing the jar, rather than having to wait for the wax melt to set to remove them. You can't use a normal burner that you use a tea light in as it isn't hot enough to melt through the jar. I used a usb coffee cup warmer. But your in the US arn't you? you can get the warmers especially for wickless candles there.

I only tied it the once, and i'd say i prefere wax melts.

Thanks, Michaela and Vicky  :)

I don't have a website as I saw them in a brick and mortar and the directions just said open the tin and not heat them up or anything. I should buy one to see- it just looked like a soy wax candle but I can't figure out how to get that much FO in there to make the scent throw without heat??!!

Your right, i can't imagine there been much of a scent throw without heating it. I thought that was the point of wickless candles.

I did see something similar when i was in Germany at christmas( at the christmas markets) they were small pots scented in essential oils that they claimed to be all natural. I'm not sure what it was made of it seemed sort of a balm texture( but didn't seem to be smelly jelly or gel wax). You didn't heat them either, they were supposed to just sit about the home and give off fragrance.

Ya, next time I'm out that way I'll buy one and put up some pics. Something seems fishy...
