Title: GRRR... CRAFT FAIRS ... GRRR
Post by: Lola on July 14, 2013, 10:55:25 PM
I am in a hate relationship with these craft fairs, driving me insane!!
my first one was pretty good, second one considering it was a school fete was good too.
And down hill after that, I am fed up with people saying oh yes well its too pretty to use, its nice for a gift if I was buying one, is it ok for sensitive skin, I think I will stick to using Dove as its a moisturising soap!!! ARGHHHHH!!! ok well if they want to stick to using that ahem "soap"  carry on but you DONT need to tell me  :P

Just done a craft fair and the organiser spent the whole 5 hours walking around guzzling glass after glass of wine, never introduced themselves, never told me where my table was, I had to walk around 3 times as someone had put their stuff on my table and obscured my name !!!, they booked another table like mine,  after I had booked mine and then put that table by mine!!!

I give up  :argh:

Sorry for the rant I am an unhappy bunny.

need cake lots of cake  >:( :( :'(

If I had a penny for everytime someone posts something like this after a craft fair.. well, lets just say I could buy a lot of new shoes! :P

Sorry it was so frustrating :( *hugs*

I am gearing up to start selling again towards the end of the year - and I am pondering if I should even bother with these fairs. They are rarely worth it, mostly the only people that attend are friends of other stall holders and they don't come to buy, just to chat and drink cheap wine. Or they expect everything to be totally cheap, because it's handmade.

I'm not going to even bother with them in that case  :mwaha:

It can be hard - there are good ones out there, but it can be hard to find them.

This is a difficult time of year, and also a difficult time due to people tightening their belts.

Try not to get discouraged - try to network with other vendors, and keep in mind the peak selling season is coming soon ....

Join the club!

I still do some, mainly because I want to support the organiser, but even she is getting demoralised (she does not charge me if I don't sell). She runs holstic fairs. The first one was good, I have not sold a thing at them since.

I am looking for other things, but it is so hard.

Sorry everyone for the rant, i didnt mean to put any of you off
as i am sure there are some excellent fairs out there run by
professional people who aren't just after the table money.

These places are great for networking, i met a wonderful lady
at one i did recently and she was so helpful, giving me info
on which ones to go to, shes been doing it for 16 years.

I am doing one more, then just christmas ones, and next
year who knows. Definitely no more summer fairs though its
not worth the stress, to me anyway.

Sorry to hear my love. Yes they can be sooo frustrating. There are loads of unscrupulous individuals out there who are just looking to take your money for a table and don't care if you sell.

The best markets that I have ever done are proper markets that have been established for ages because people actually go there to but stuff.

One of my dreams would be to open a bricks and mortar shop and fill it with all of our products. Shelves filled with our goodies. One day!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a large Pub in Croydon, that has been empty for ages. It has a large lounge, a separate are, which I think used to be for women and children, a large kitchen and several upstairs function rooms - it really is massive. It's quite old, Early Victorian, but with lots of nooks and little towers and things.
Every time I drive past it, I think if I win the lottery, I would convert this into a Fresholi Shop (all of us get to stock an area of the shop), with a soapmaking area in the old kitchen and use the other rooms as a cafe and to hold workshops in. Could possibly even hold a soap conference in there. (It is that big, yes).

Dreams.....  :buttrf:

Here it is, although from that angle it isn't so big looking

That would be amazing MP. Like a sort of soapers co-op in a fabulous character building. Lovely  :)

Wow what a building! Well sometimes dreams can come true.

I really think a shop is doable. Would take some coordination but could be done in the future.

Of course a more modest venue would probably have to suffice in the short term but somewhere with alot of footfall on a buzzing high street. Customers could also make special requests (within reason and minimum orders too). I think it would be a winner. We could have maker of the week where we showcase each persons creations and have lots of blurb about them etc...

That person could come in and do a presentation about their products and give some beauty tips/knowledge about ingredients, skin care etc. to customers. Could have someone doing facials and massages using our products at set times. Oh yes brain is working over time now.

Let's do it... LEETTTTSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

I am waiting for that Lottery win.... I did have a win last Saturday - but somehow I think £10 isn't going to cover it  :mwaha:

Oh WOW!!!

this all sounds AMAZING I would love a proper shop, that building is fabulous, my dream is to convert an old style patisserie shop in France, into a beautiful vintage soap shop.  Oh and it has to be by a river and it has to be sunny EVERY DAY and my shop has to be the ONLY place you can buy these wonderful items, I could buy everyone's products in too  :mwaha:

... oh dreams beautiful dreams ...

Oh goodness!! That building is certainly amazing! Just imagine the 'whiff' as you stepped foot inside the door?? Perhaps the sound of a stick blender in the background, the bang, bang, bang of a mold off a counter top, the ooooooooohing as a soap is cut at seeing the magic inside - ah yes - I am there!! Oh not to forget the 'ching ching' sounds from the money rolling in.  :mwaha:

ok - concerted effor to play the lottery - maybe we should do a Fresholi Syndicate - and then we could buy another pub for Suzanne to do the same up north?

I'm up for it. I think it's really good idea to do crafer's cooperative set of stores. Shall we pitch it in Dragon's Den?
