Title: oh dear.....
Post by: retropants on September 04, 2011, 05:22:45 PM
another stinker :(

in a very affluent area of Surrey, I took the princely sum of £19.00.

table £20
parking £5.20
petrol £10.00

only 80 bodies made it through the door, most of them carrying expensive boutique purchases from the high street. stingy bunch .

Oh I work near Reigate. Surprised you didn't sell well there, they are normally a spendy bunch. And it was payday as well. Weird...

There are quite a few food fairs about at the moment. Perhaps there was something else on which kept people away.

Sorry to hear!

It rained a bit around here... And it seems very quiet, maybe lots of people away?

Emma its the last weekend before the kids are back at school . People could be grabbing a few last hours peace before all hell breaks loose and the school runs start again  ::)

ah, yes, it is the weekend of frantically trying to buy the last bits of school uniform.....and realizing that all shops only cater for 6-7 year olds and no other sizes exist (can you tell, we've been there this weekend...)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking - my weekly Friday market has been desperate the last couple of weeks.

It was the last Bank Holiday just before your fair too, most people are sick of going out and just want to stay at home and do the garden and bits n pieces before the kids go back to school, I know a few stall holders who didn't even make their stall fee's, rather a sad day for most, just keep plodding a long is what I say, as long as you enjoy what your doing :buttrf:  I only took half of what I did on the Bank Holiday weekend
' half a loaf is better than none' so the saying goes

Awww, retro, sorry you had a rubbish fair. It really does make you wonder why you bother with it all. Fingers crossed to you that you have a good xmas. I'm hoping (and praying) that people are more spendy at xmas cos they have been cautious all the rest of the year. To be fair, we have been cautious too, so I can't blame people for wanting to keep their cash. I've seen tons of things I want to buym but unless I need it, I;ve not been buying (but I;ve stopped work so no income now for me)

If people can't afford to buy a bar of bloody soap we are really in trouble, don't you think?  :mwaha:

Thing is iulia, we are wanting them to pay £4 and upwards for a bar of soap. A reasonable and fair price I think, but many people don't see it that way. nor would I pay £4 for every bar of soap, so our soaps are indulgences and gifts.

Really sorry to hear that your fair was not good.   :-[ I haven't ventured out to any fairs for a while now as can feel so disheartened with low sales after spending so much time and attention and love creating goodies but at the same time know that I am not really helping myself by limiting coverage and marketing opportunities.

Keep thinking about the Christmas run up and fair opportunities but have already cancelled one fairly small event after finding out that the event organiser has agreed for 4 soap makers to be present!!!

Fingers crossed that we all have some positive selling opportunities over the coming months   :buttrf:

So sorry you had a rubbish weekend. We did ok in the end but we had a very slow weekend and did half the business we had expected. Apparently, according to stall-holders who do my event every year, this is the quietest they've ever seen it. Even one year the whole place flooded and they did better! It seems to have been a universally sucky weekend...
