Title: Little market
Post by: Em on July 28, 2011, 08:58:16 AM
Tomorrow morning I'm doing what I expect will be a tiny local craft market in a church hall in a little village outside Scarborough. have no idea how busy it will be but they have one every month. It's only costing £5 for the stall though and as it's local it's worth that for the advertising alone. My last fair has now made me over £100 in new aromatherapy clients.

I'm really looking forward to it, just hoping there might be a few customers!

Good luck on your market!  I like doing them in my own area because of the repeat business.  I hope it is really profitable for you and that you have a lot of fun... :D

Thanks, I'm looking forward to it. I really enjoy talking to people about my products and my parents always come and help out so it's like a family day out!

I'll let you all know how it goes. Of course any profits will have been frittered away on pub lunches for the family...  ;D

Oh, it was the funniest experience! I was in the church, where tabels had been set up balancing across the pews! A bit difficult, but certainly interesting.

It was a sweet little market with a mixture of villagers and holiday-makers. From talking to other stall holders, it takes a few appearances at the market to really win over the locals and encourage them to buy.

I made back my investment of £5 within minutes but only made total of £12. That bought one very delicious pub lunch! On the plus side the cake-lady kept us supplied with very tasty and cheap cupcakes and tea and coffee was free!

Going back next month and have also been roped into doing the 27th Annual Staintondale & District Show next Sunday afternoon where there is an actual prize for tallest weed! prize money £1. I love Yorkshire village life!

That's a quaint setup isn't it - I like the pic with the window behind your stall.

Pity you didn't make more - but this weekend, Friday in particular, can be slow for fairs as many people are getting ready for going on holiday or already travelling.

Better luck next month and at the show (rosebay willowherb or hemlock possible contenders for "Tallest Weed").

Now that is the most unusual way I've heard of yet to have a table  :o  Your table looks quite nice...  :buttrf:

I think it looks about as good as I could get under those conditions! I really need to find some good shelving and bits and bobs to use on my table. I don't have much and always think it looks rather bare. Problem is i'm not very crafty and haven't come across anything ready made that would work.

Any ideas of things I could use?  ???

Looks great. Well done.  :buttrf: It feels so good to sell stuff that you've made. i made some stands with plywood that look like steps. You can do the same thing with cardboard and then cover it with some nice paper/fabric.

Em it does look good - you did a good job.... :buttrf:

For shelving I use a wooden shoe rack and it works really well for me....

Em, dont know how I missed these pics, the set up looks good, but it's a shame takings were a bit slow - a pub lunch sounds like a great way to spend your earnings though  ;D

Your table loooks good Em & so do your products.

It takes a while to get your set up just the way you want it & very often table sizes will vary so you have to try other ways to get what you want out on display & looking good. You'll get there soon enough.

Thanks everyone,

I think I'll just have to gradually hoard bits and pieces to try out. I'm always a little in awe when I see pictures of many of your stalls, they look so fantastic and would draw me over immediately if I was passing!

That looks lovely - and y'shire village life certainly sounds like fun. Since I started soaping there are no more weeds in my Garden, they are all called exotic flowers now  :mwaha:

Does Bindweed that is growing up the drainpipe count?  :buttrf:

My parents live in the fens and until last week when they got the gardeners in could probably have run away with first prize for tallest weed. If only we had known about it sooner. I could have done with the £1 prize money! ;D
