Title: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Lulu on September 08, 2010, 04:14:41 PM Hi Folks,
I am pondering about packaging some round soaps, and I do not want to use boxes. I was wondering if any one had any techniques of using paper in the style of Roger & Gallet. I have tried doing it several times but it comes out looking like a pigs ear. Any ideas warmly received. Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Andy on September 08, 2010, 04:18:10 PM Gosh, I always wondered how they do that... It's neatly plaited.
I suspect you'll need proper equipment, or a lot of time to spend. Have to think if it'll be cost-effective. Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Eire on September 08, 2010, 04:27:50 PM It won't give you exact pleats but, I use a big rool of duct tape, place paper on top and shove soap down into middle. Trim of excess and put ingredients label on to seal.

Eire Thanks Eire, will have a go in a mo ;D Though knowing me it will come out looking pretty awfull, lol Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Andy on September 08, 2010, 04:45:04 PM How handy! One more useful application for the duct tape! ;D
Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Lulu on September 08, 2010, 04:47:20 PM Just tried it - another pigs ear but at least I now have a matching set :mwaha:
Back to the drawing board. Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: EJ on September 08, 2010, 04:51:34 PM I use thumb and 1st finger of R hand to pleat and thunb and 1st finger of L hand to hold the soap and the pleats as they're made.
Quick go with circle of kitchen roll - circle too big and kitchen roll not the best paper for folding. Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Lulu on September 08, 2010, 04:53:02 PM Wow Elaine, I must be all thumbs - you have inspired me to have another go
Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Andy on September 08, 2010, 04:55:51 PM Elaine, you must be highly skilled with these, because all your corn dollies look perfect. I know where you get your practice from! :mwaha:
Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Ollieblue on September 08, 2010, 05:18:29 PM Elaine - you are one nifty pleater!
Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: EJ on September 08, 2010, 05:28:44 PM I'll see whether Jones will take a series of pics over my shoulder to show the wrapping in process.

Then he'll have to eat. Don't bank on it! Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Suzanne on September 08, 2010, 07:22:01 PM A great deal of practice, the correct paper and the right size. Well you asked! Rather you than me I think. I am not dextrous (or patient) enough.

Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Lulu on September 08, 2010, 09:00:40 PM would muslin behave a little easier? I already do the Muslin, in all shapes and forms, but wanted something a bit more crisp and chicy Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: polly on September 08, 2010, 09:01:20 PM Could you cut a larger round of muslin , put the soap in the middle, bring muslin up at the top, and tie together with a ribbon and tag so that the extra muslin comes out the top of the ribbon (sorry, probably not described that very well, but i can see it in my head :D
Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: polly on September 08, 2010, 09:02:02 PM Oops sorry, no muslin. Hmmm, can't think of anything else right now

Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Loretta on September 08, 2010, 11:35:36 PM I use thumb and 1st finger of R hand to pleat and thunb and 1st finger of L hand to hold the soap and the pleats as they're made. Quick go with circle of kitchen roll - circle too big and kitchen roll not the best paper for folding. Goodness I thought that sort of thing was done on a machine of some sort, I didn't know 'someone' could actually do it free hand, that looks to good Elaine, you are so good at everything Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: clairesoaps on September 08, 2010, 11:39:44 PM I was wonderining how they wrap those round soaps. Surely it is not all done by hand.
Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: EJ on September 08, 2010, 11:40:10 PM There are machines which do the pleated wrapping - and there's a company in Lincolnshire or somewhere which supplies pleated circle wraps - can't think of the name ATM.
Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: madpiano on September 09, 2010, 03:20:03 AM apparently coffee filters work for this kind of thing. But it has to be those flower shaped commercial filters, not the triangular things from Lions.

Put the soap in the middle, and wrap it up - stick a nice tie on it.. Bob's your Uncle.

Put the soap in the middle, and wrap it up - stick a nice tie on it.. Bob's your Uncle. Thanks Honey, I have been thinking along those lines, just wondering if the material will fray. Though I have seen some nice ready made ones on ebay 12 inch dia, but a wee bit on the expensive side Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: polly on September 09, 2010, 01:57:39 PM Nobel packaging go some tula (?) and organze wrap already cut, might be cheaper than ebay
Title: Re: Packaging Round Soap Ideas Pleaze Post by: Lulu on September 09, 2010, 05:28:54 PM Thanks Polly ;)
