Title: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Nicola J on May 05, 2010, 08:04:18 PM Hello!
I thought I had better introduce myself - first, I am Nicola, and I live in the North-west of England and second, I apologise for any daftness if this goes haywire (I have bothered Helen already just to get registered correctly), but this is the first time ever that I have joined a forum. It is all down to Helen's great shop and customer service that I have written. I would have actually felt guilty if I hadn't! I don't know how much to say - I don't get out much - sorry if I "talk" too much in future! I am sure I will be asking questions before this week is out, because I have a box of stuff now that I need to make things with; now I have been brave enough to actually contribute rather than lurk, I am sure the world will be my mollusc. Anyway, you all seem nice from what I have read so far...be gentle! Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: polly on May 05, 2010, 08:14:20 PM Hi Nicola,
Welcome to the forum - we really are a friendly bunch. What kind of things do you make? (and I agree, Helen's customer service) I make soaps and Body butters and just made my frist CP soap today. polly Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Vanilla on May 05, 2010, 08:18:26 PM Hi Nicola welcome to the forum! What things are you planning to make with your box of stuff?? :)
Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: nakedtruthbeauty on May 05, 2010, 08:22:27 PM Welcome aboard! If you've been lurking you'll know we love pics, so as soon as you've made some goodies we need to see! ;)
Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Nicola J on May 05, 2010, 08:23:47 PM Well, thank you for replying - I feel a bit better now!
As to what I make, I am a bit of a newbie at "unguent" making (as my husband calls it) as well as forums. I have been crafty (knitting, crochet, embroidery) for many, many (sigh) years, and at one stage a while ago was very interested in essential oils and making my own stuff: When I had anaphylaxsis 20 years ago and blistered all over, the only thing I could cleanse with was yoghurt and lavender oil, which worked wonders - why did I stop? Nice commercial bottles I expect. Since then I have always had and used essential oils in the house, but have only recently started to look seriously at making my own cleanser, moisturiser and so on. Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Nicola J on May 05, 2010, 08:27:41 PM Oh no lots of replies - I haven't been this popular in years! (I told you I would talk too much). Well you are bringing it on yourselves.
Yes, I do know about the pictures - as soon as I figure it out I will be photographic I promise. My box has some base oils, EOs of course, and I have some butters in the fridge - I need to make some body butter type stuff first, then cleansing oil and some body scrub (it is all planned regimentally - I used to be a teacher!) Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Honey on May 05, 2010, 08:49:13 PM Welcome! You know already we love pics so whenever you get your box of goodies, you can post pics of what you've made with them.
The more you post (talk!), the more boards will open for you ... welcome, enjoy, don't forget the pics! Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Helen on May 05, 2010, 08:57:32 PM Hi Nicola,
Yay!!! You made it ;D It is great to have you here and I hope you find it useful and enjoy it. Have a good look around the boards, I am sure you will get some inspiration ;) I really look forward to hearing about your products as you make and develop your ideas :buttrf: :buttrf: Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Suzanne on May 05, 2010, 09:04:32 PM Welcome. I am in the north west of England too.
Sounds like it is all Helen's fault. :mwaha: A box of stuff is very dangerous indeed. Daft is good, and we insist on piccies! Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Barbarella on May 05, 2010, 09:09:32 PM Hello ;D I'm from the north west also

Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Nicola J on May 05, 2010, 09:30:44 PM Goodness me - I am nearly overwhelmed. How lovely of you all to say hello. And others from my locale! Although I have to say I am only an honorary northerner by dint of marriage to a local boy - I am originally from down south near where "The Office" was set. 30 years up here have made some think I sound northern. My very very old dad is a geordie however, and no-one can beat them at being northern I think!
My box of stuff is to be attacked for the first time tomorrow and I have read all the recipes you have very kindly provided as resources as well as some books- it will be a body cream of some sort using the mango butter (mainly because I love the smell and idea and love mangoes if I get over the guilt of air miles). It has to be a moisturiser for both me and my elderly mum's legs and simple so I understand the ingredients. I am looking forward to finally putting my reading into practise. I will take pictures but it might take me a while to figure out how to attach them - you all seem so talented though that my stuff will be a bit sad I think! Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: samantha on May 05, 2010, 09:56:19 PM Hello Nicola and a big warm welcome ()
Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: EJ on May 05, 2010, 10:43:13 PM Hello Nicola - welcome in.
Lots of info here but do ask if you're not certain of anything. Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Honey on May 05, 2010, 10:51:47 PM No matter how talented you think we are, every single one of us started from scratch .... everyone has to and it's the best way to learn. Enjoy!!!!

I started from the middle... I'm sure I did... if I remember right...Welcome Nicola! :hi: Well done you taking the step to join the forum. You will love it here! :buttrf: Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Nicola J on May 05, 2010, 11:13:44 PM Thank you all for the warm welcome! You're both right I think - I love the potential of my box - I have tidied it twice just to see how excitingly neat it is before I mess everything up, and I love the feeling of learning something new. At the same time there is previous knowledge from other fields that make it a development...==========[[[ well that ended that pontification. My old cat just walked on the keyboard glaring at me that I am not in bed for her to sleep on for the next 12 hours till feeding time. Sigh.

Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Nicola J on May 06, 2010, 02:07:08 PM Hello to all of you!
You are right, I am already being sucked in - it's becoming a habit - first wanting to know if I can make my own bodycare products, so surfing to find out, then surfing to find where to buy the ingredients and thus falling into the Fresholi trap! - Now (because I have been a bit under the weather today - and that's Mancunian weather so it's heavy) I am reading lots of your posts so I can get to know you a bit better - WHEN AM I GOING TO MAKE MY BODY BUTTER?! I think I like the individual ingredients so much - it's like beautiful multicoloured hanks of wool that you don't want to knit but just stash and look at. However, the time will come tonight or tomorrow DEFINITELY... Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: halfabubbleoffplumb on May 06, 2010, 02:29:07 PM Nicola! I know just how you feel - I have several hanks that are just too pretty to knit! I ended us making a felt bowl and just displaying them! They make me happy :)
Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Hayley on May 06, 2010, 02:40:53 PM Hi Nicola
Enjoy your creating, I made CP soap, Bath Bombs, melts and body butters, all for myself, family and friends. We really enjoy them. Have fun :buttrf: Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Eire on May 06, 2010, 09:23:47 PM Hi Nicola, welcome aboard. I'm sure you will enjoy it here.

Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Avril on May 07, 2010, 04:40:19 AM Hi and welcome...once you start experimenting you won't want to stop !!!! :buttrf:
Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Nicola J on May 07, 2010, 02:16:29 PM Thank you all again! Sorry I am not using text speak or icons yet - I am a bit of a Luddite with this young people stuff!
Nicola! I know just how you feel - I have several hanks that are just too pretty to knit! I ended us making a felt bowl and just displaying them! They make me happy :) That's something I have always meant to do - felting I mean - but too many crafts to do and not enough life! I have just started experimenting yesterday and now have some questions once I figure out which heading to put it under ( and of course figure out adding photographs if possible - see, that's even more stuff to learn!). The trouble is, now I have done a bit of experimenting as you all say, I feel "oh, what if I did this, or add that...maybe buy more of..." Fatal for my purse! Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: halfabubbleoffplumb on May 07, 2010, 04:00:19 PM Well, if you want to try felting, just let me know. It's very satisfying - especially needle felting, the projects work up quickly and there's lots of stabbing. :mwaha:
Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: Nicola J on May 07, 2010, 04:46:56 PM That's a very kind offer, thank you. As soon as I've run out of money to buy any more "unguent" stuff I may take you up on that!
Title: Re: Hello, I've finally done it! Post by: halfabubbleoffplumb on May 07, 2010, 04:52:16 PM Probably best to do it in that order - everyone usually ends up stabbing themselves at least once with that barbed needle - unguents first, then you'll be prepared to heal thyself!
