Title: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: lyndsayfink on May 01, 2010, 05:13:55 PM Hello,
I heard about this forum a while ago from someone on the dish forum (I was new there and a little scared, and sought some moral support from a kindly poster who I saw was UK based!) but promptly got swept up in research. I'm finally here, and from the little look around I've just had, it seems very warm and welcoming! Thank you in advance!! I'm new to formulating and mostly interested in non-soapy things like moisturisers and scrubs. I started off making sugar/salt scrubs when I couldn't find a good one in the shops and have now been sucked in! So far I can only claim scrub and toner but am this weekend putting together the final bits and pieces for my first lotion. I'm at that faffing about stage trying to make sure I don't forget anything and deciding on the right combo of oils. I'm so close now! Nice to meet you all! Lyndsay Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: Honey on May 01, 2010, 05:19:13 PM Welcome Lyndsay! I make soaps, body butters, lip balms (all for sale) and creams (not for sale). Lots of people here who make creams/lotions etc.. I've not tried a scrub yet but I plan to!
Just a quick note to say we adore pics, so if you've anything to show us... well make sure you do :mwaha: and the more you post, the more boards will open for you. Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: EJ on May 01, 2010, 05:25:00 PM Hello Lyndsay and welcome.
I make all sorts of stuff - currently well into herbal balms. We did think about a FAQ but didn't get very far so if you want to know anything just shout out ('cos there's a lot of topics to search on and it can take ages). Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! A very warm welcome!!! Oh dear, you have not only been sucked in but have admitted to it - verrrry dangerous :mwaha: Do have a good read through the forum as there has been lots of discussions on your topic of interest that you might find useful. Like Honey said, the more you post, the more boards open up to you. I hope you enjoy it here with your new virtual friends :buttrf: :buttrf: Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: Eva on May 01, 2010, 06:49:28 PM Hello and welcome! :hi:
I also make all sort of things but no soap yet (they are trying to lure me to the dark side but I stand firm). Did anyone mention we love pics? :mwaha: Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: Honey on May 01, 2010, 06:59:42 PM Firm for now Eva! I suspect you may crack.
Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: lyndsayfink on May 01, 2010, 07:21:10 PM Thank you everyone for the lovely welcome!
I've not really made much for pictures yet. I did make a love chocolate/cinnamon scrub that I put bicarb in (I guess I read it somewhere...). (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_-6afqbLdGE4/S9xwDtFzdLI/AAAAAAAAAfo/KWlSvjTfYvo/s320/DSC00685.JPG) Overnight it swelled up and looked pretty terrifying in the pot, so I had to get my partner to open it as the force made it too tough for me and it promptly exploded all over the kitchen... (I'm not sure if I've done the picture correctly) Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: Helen on May 01, 2010, 07:26:43 PM Oopsie daisy :mwaha:
Bicarb is actually a rather good scrub element (providing there is no broken skin) but it seems that it created a choccy bomb in this case - could be a novelty ;) :mwaha: Thanks for the pic (it'll keep honey off your back, for the time being at least :snnger: ) Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: lyndsayfink on May 01, 2010, 08:05:58 PM ha, yes, it did add a kind of "exciting element"!
Surprisingly enough it ended up making quite a nice "cakey" texture, a bit like a oven baked souffle, which was nice to use. Meltingly-firm ish. Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: Honey on May 01, 2010, 08:13:29 PM That's rather a new take on a bath bomb... scrub bomb?
BTW you lot are horrid to me, you'd swear I was a pic addict. Ok, ok.. I am. But so are you lot too!!! Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: Eire on May 01, 2010, 09:42:31 PM Yep, but we can blame it all on you. ;D
Welcome Lyndsay, good to ahve you aboard. @ Eva. Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated. ;D Eire Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: Sleepingdragon10 on May 01, 2010, 09:56:14 PM Oooh, a chocolate bomb.........sounds excellent to me :mwaha:

Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: Vanilla on May 02, 2010, 04:35:35 PM Hello Lyndsay, welcome! :) You'll find loads of useful stuff here I'm sure.
I started making creams fairly recently, it is a bit of faff sometimes but brilliant fun, and gets less faffy once you've done it a couple of times & know a bit more what you're doing! It is always a joy to see the oils & water emulsify and turn into cream...it's like magic! (Except for the times when it doesn't work & you end up with something looking very much like baby sick lol :mwaha:) Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: smith on June 02, 2010, 11:51:19 PM Hi Lindsey,
I am also quite new, but over the past week, everyone here has been so helpful and generous with their time and expertise. All the best for the lotion lift off! I was planning on doing lots of making this week as im on half term but unfortunately im still waiting for a few bits to arrive (ok...im secretly glad in a way because I can avoid the crappy mistakes and disappointments for another day or two!) If you dont mind me asking, will you be doing a recipe you have found or have you been working on your own cream from scratch? Kat ;D Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: Nicola J on June 03, 2010, 03:08:01 PM Hello from me too - sorry so late! :hi:
Title: Re: Hello there, I'm new! Post by: lyndsayfink on June 03, 2010, 07:27:43 PM Hi Kat, thanks for the hello! Yes everyone here has been very helpful. I have made my face cream from scratch and tried to formulate it myself, I found a few I liked and a nyr product I like and kind of tried to work them together. I tweaked the oils and bits. I think I mostly used the basic cream lotion that swift/susan has on her blog http://swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com/. The formulation I used is in a post in the show and tell section here and a huge photo too!! I was a bit scared but I just took it slowly and it worked out ok, I did spend ages putting together my formulationa and researching what bits and pieces to use though.

Check out the very special and embarassing questions in my post I made on the 'I made my first cream!' discussion - no Im not stupid, but the whole cream thing has scrambled my brain x :-\
