Fresholi | Melting Pot Café

I have a mould which is rubber I think, not silicone in which this melt is made.
On some of them I get this frost marks and have no idea why. I have tried greased mould and no grease but same result.
It's FOs in the melts no EOs. I let it cool in room temp.

Anyone have any idea why this happens?

Not a clue hon .. maybe overheating? I don't make them so I'm just not sure.

oh yes, that happens to me as well, I hope some one here knows why/what/how please? :buttrf:...my melts (shea and oil) get a frosty ashey filmy coaty thing on the mold side...looks like chocolate when its gawn orff!! :buttrf:

Yes, like chocolate on its last breath.
Mine are wax melts, just so it isn't mixed up with bath melts.  :)

Well, that's interesting, as that is one of the reasons I gave making candles. I used glass containers and initially the candle looked lovely but after a month or so I noticed they developed this whitey look around the sides - sporadic, but enough that I wouldn't buy if if I saw it in a shop. I started in the body butters so that took over.

But sorry Evam I don't know why it does that  :( Maybe Kevin might know as he makes a lot of candles/melts.

Are you using soy wax? frosting is just one of the naturally occuring issues you get with soy. You can't really prevent it, but that doesn't make you don't have a great product just cause of a little frosting. It's just one of soy wax's quirks that you have to learn to love. Infact a lot of customers see it as a sign of a natural candle.

But if you really don't like it, then mixing the soy with some paraffin wax will stop it.

Vicky-this is really interesting. I didn't know you could mix soy and paraffin - will that work if they're blends? (sorry, don't know much about candles)

@ Vicky, that is interesting and good info.  Yes, I'm using soy wax.

I also had that on some melts I put rice bran wax in ....

so does any one know why the frost is on bath melts as opposed to soy wax melts?????

Did you cool them too quickly? (just an idea as I don't really know, sorry)

michaela i haven't quiet worked it out but shea and cocoa butter also does the same with silicon moulds, i find it distracting trying to scrap it to have a closer inspection but i still don't understand what it is, it could well be EO or FO too.

Yes it will work. If anything i even find a blend of waxes work best as you get the best of both- the higher scent load of soy and the strength of colour and no frosting of paraffin. What combination is soming you need to test and see which works west for you, but you could try 80% soy and 20% paraffin. Or 50/50, or any combination you think would work for you.
