Title: TKB POP Micas - Co-Op
Post by: kevie192 on February 07, 2010, 07:32:53 PM
Hi all,

I am hosting a co-op to buy POP Micas from TKB in the US. Details of these Micas are here (http://www.tkbtrading.com/item.php?item_id=503).

All are safe in M&P soap, but the Strawberry morphs to orange in CP soap.

Prices for the SEVEN colours are:

Quote
Samples (1 Tablespoon ea. Color)  $9.00
1 ounce each color  $22.00
4 ounces each color  $75.00
1 pound each color  $250.00

Prices for the SIX colours (no Strawberry) are:

Quote
Samples (1 Tablespoon ea. Color)  $7.50
1 ounce each color  $19.00

The colours are also available in liquid form, but this would add to postage cost so I suggest we just get the powders.

Pictures of the colours in both M&P and CP soaps are here (http://www.tkbtrading.com/popinsoap.htm). There is also an eBook for ideas of colours you can mix with the micas here (http://www.tkbtrading.com/TKBPopMicaRoundup.pdf).

Please post below what you'd like - multiples of 1oz of each colour please. If you could keep this thread for the orders and the other thread here (http://www.forum.fresholi.co.uk/index.php/topic,7294.0.html) for chatting about the micas that would really help me to keep track. I'm a bit simple, me!

The process will be: I will give people a week to list what they're after. Cut off is Saturday 13th February 2010 at 8am I will then contact TKB and tell them the amount needed and request a quote for shipping. So long as this is not extortionate, I will continue with the order. Once I have received the goods, everyone will receive a PM telling them of their total and requesting payment through Paypal - either as a gift or with a little bit added to cover the fees. Each participant will need to pay for their goods, a proportional amount of the shipping and customs (if any) charges and the forwarding postage to their address.

I'll keep you updated every step of the way :)

Kevin x

Where are we with this.. is it still a goer? For those who don't want the strawberry, I could take a little more after fact and use it in creams/balms etc.  But I can work that out with you Kevin, seperately.

Oh just seen this, next time your going to order Kevin, give me a shout and i'll join in if thats o.k.

I bought some of the pop micas last year, i've only ever used them in melt and pour soap, but there great. There so versitile, depending on what base you use and how much you use.  I even made a loaf using every single mica, in a chunk soap loaf with a white overpour, scented in jellybeans. All the kids love it.

Post by: kevie192 on February 25, 2010, 08:49:11 PM
OK, so I've finally got the shipping quote back from TKB and the cost is as follows (approx conversion used):

Total cost       £218.00
VAT          £38.15
Shipping      £79.00
Equipment       £5.00
Total          £340.15

Total units      128
Cost per unit   £2.66

A unit is 1oz of colour. So, if you want 7 colours x 1oz it's 7 x £2.66 = £18.61

7 colours would usually cost you $36, so that's about £24.00. About 25% saving.

The £5.00 I've included is for little baggies and dust mask for when I'm packaging them. I hope that's ok.

All prices quoted are provisional. Obviosuly I don't know what exact customs etc. will be but as soon as the micas are in my posession I will be sending everyone a message with their final total.

Title: Re: TKB POP Micas - Co-Op
Post by: madpiano on February 26, 2010, 01:04:25 PM
Brilliant - they are actually not that expensive at all, considering we are getting 1oz per colour, rather than just a teaspoon.

Just one thing confuses me a bit....VAT ? They shouldn't be charging you VAT ? Or did you incorporate that in case HMR wants import tax ?

Title: Re: TKB POP Micas - Co-Op
Post by: kevie192 on February 26, 2010, 02:55:56 PM
MP, I added the VAT on. Mica doesnt have any import tax but you still have to pay 17.5% VAT. Obviously these are all provisional until i have the Mica in my hands and know exact cost.

Title: Re: TKB POP Micas - Co-Op
Post by: madpiano on February 26, 2010, 03:10:13 PM
if there is no import tax (thankfully some things are exempt), no need to worry about VAT. Import tax is essentially VAT

The dollar rate really is helping us, let's hope it falls a bit more...

Thanks so much for this Kev, I hope you don't look like a rainbow-smurf after you repackaged them  :buttrf:

Title: Re: TKB POP Micas - Co-Op

Kev, when you receive these, please don't rush trying to get them out. The stuff can fly everywhere, and irritation is common with exposure, so take your time.

Im afraid import duty and VAT are two seperate things MP. I checked with customs for clarification on this.

Bloomin 'eck!

I've just had notification that the parcel was sent yesterday and estimated delivery is... Monday 1st March!!!!

How exciting :D :D

(also means it will pass through customs at the weekend which means less chance it will be caught for VAT even)

Sorry ladies, I've been bad and very slow on this one :(

The micas are here but the grip seal bags took aged to arrive and I've got a two-day craft fair tomorrow and Saturday I needed to get ready for. I'm hoping to decant them into their little bags early next week. I hope that's ok.

Post by: kevie192 on March 20, 2010, 11:46:25 AM
Well it's taken me 4 hours to split these so far and I'm still not finished. Need at least another 2 hours so hopefully they will be finished this weekend.

I now have a rainbow coloured dining table, my apron is ruined and I'll be clearing up rainbow-coloured dust for weeks.

To top it all, the residue it leaves in the big bags etc. had meant I've only been able to split 15oz out of the 1lb bags, leaving me without any mica for myself! Great!

Title: Re: TKB POP Micas - Co-Op
Post by: Eire on March 20, 2010, 12:31:46 PM
Kev, I'll share my mica. I also think the #price should be didived by 15 so we all absorb the cost equally. They are bloody messt stuff to deal with. Your on your own with the apron though. :mwaha:

Oh that's not fair Kevin - you did all the work on this, not fair you're left with nowt.. esp as you've forked out the money too.  Gotta be a way we can work this out fairly to all.  I don't agree with one person taking the hit at all, no fair.

I had ordered 4 oz of each. It would probably be easier for Kev to keep an ounce bag of each colour of mine. The cost of lost oz can be distributed between all of us. Probably only a couple of £ or so each. Would everyone be happy with that?

Co-op? I didn't even know you guys did this!

There are several companies in the US that sell things that I can't seem to find in the UK, but postage is always high for a small order. How do I go about arranging a co-op?

Title: Re: TKB POP Micas - Co-Op
Post by: kevie192 on March 23, 2010, 08:01:23 PM
If you want a co-op, all you need to so is organise one. Might be quite difficult from Spain as most of us are in the UK. I'm always happy to organise them; I was just a bit slow on this one due to the nightmarish nature of splitting up micas!!!

Let me know of you would like me to host something.

Thank you for letting me know, ladies :) :)

I must say, up until yesterday I had only used the micas in soaps... However, I used some in a test batch of liquid soap and it was AMAZING! Only needed a little bit to give the most vibrant, shimmering, gorgeous (in this case) yellow!

These are fun :D

I am usually organised but at the last minute with my big thick rubber gloves on I tried to open the bag of raspberry, me and all my surroundings were covered with the stuff it went everywhere! and it is still everywhere! I must settlre down and use this properly, I can't imagine how you dealty with it but thank you it is much appreciated

My POP Micas have arrived !!! Thank you Kevin and sorry about my delay with paying - I hate the UK Cheque system !!

Now.....I need to make soap. I have 2 ideas in my head and thankfully 1 oz of these Micas is plenty. This actually worked out relatively cheap compared to the cost of Mica in the UK.

How much do you normally use per 1kg of soap ?
