Title: Wax tarts need SA?
Post by: Eva on November 17, 2009, 02:55:50 PM
This may be clear to most but do one need to safety assess wax tarts before selling?

No they dont Eva.

One thing you cant do is call them tarts as aparently Yankee have trademarked in relation to them or is melts Oh blimey im going to have to check. Kev knows as he is selling them an he is always very careful about abiding by regs etc

But if you move onto candles there is  possiblynew legislation coming in re wick size height of burn, candles having to be sent to labs for test burns. Dont panic on that at this stage though as candlemakers are trying  to get involved so it doesnt affect small crafters so much

Great new pic Eva! Loving the sunshine, could do with a bit of that.  :buttrf: This thread has saved me starting one, as I was going to ask about the candles! So at the moment I could sell candles without the need for a SA? I know there are still some labelling requirements tho.

You must ensure you have your safety labels on the bottom always explain about a memory burn and trimming the wick.
Also ad it to your crafter insurance IW insures me for bot ny b&b products and my candles. It didnt cost me any extra either.

If using glasses for containers please ensure they are thick enough nad doa safety test candle first
