Title: When selling... Prices!
Post by: kevie192 on October 24, 2009, 07:37:59 PM
I wondered if we could possibly have a rule that says if you post something to sell you must list the price. And if you want to swap something you must list what you want to swap for or at least the perceived value you are looking for?

I don't see the point in wanting to sell something and then not putting a price... It is just annoying having to PM someone to ask!

I do see that obviously it is better for anyone to see the price/value of something before entering into a negotiation.
But, I don't think that should be policed.
If someone wants to keep it private, that's fair enough.
Probably with prices they would get a better response, but that should be absolutely a personal choice.

I don't cosnider it inconvenient to pm and ask a price, neither should people be forced into stating what they want to swap for - they could be open to suggestions.

Kev, Dont be silly.
You made a point Kes made a suggestion and someone else made a different point.
At the end of the day its up to the individuals concerned. Im sure you have had stuff at times that you havent a clue how to price and its helpful if people make offers.
I appreciate it can be difficult to make offers too. This just means it s difficult for both parties but by chatting away Im sure everyone gets there in the end.

Now come ere and give Auntie Michelle a squidge ()

If they genuinely don't know what they want for it then that's fine but I mean when people make a post for something they want to sell knowing the price they want but don't post it!

I think we just take each other on trust.

Well said Michelle!

I don't see what the problem is? Some people might not want to conduct business on a public forum. Private messaging is, well, that, private for both parties involved. it isn't that difficult to send a pm to ask for a price. ???
As Michelle said, we are all different and like to do things differently, doesn't mean we need a bunch of rules to get everyone doing the same thing ;)  ;D

Kev I think you are an upfront kind of person & have a healthy attitude towards money & that's a good thing!  :)  But we are not all like that.
I'm one of those people that money makes all cringey.  I have a permanent guilt thing afixed to it - don't ask me why though as I don't know why.   :-[
I'd give a psychologist a run for their money on this score... :mwaha:
I hate asking for it at the best of times...even at a cheap price, even when needs must.  People like me (and I think there are quite a lot of us about ;)) need to be able to say our price privately because it's hard enough for us to even do it that way. :-\

What a relief!!  Not just me then.  You should see me with my clients when it comes to charging.  Really difficult and I can't stand it (it is made worse because they are face to face with them and I have known these people for years and consider them my friends).  I always follow 'the damage' with 'is that alright?'  :-\   Just terrible.
