Title: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: lujos on October 20, 2009, 04:10:43 PM You know, I think I must be the only soap and beauty products maker in Spain! Well, maybe not, but it sure feels like it! I am new - have finalised my products, designed the logo, and developed the website. Launching soon, once my product photos are uploaded.
Very interested in other people's advice, comments on almost everything to do with soaps and creams! Also, on a personal note - I'm developing a cream for my friend with eczema on her hands. This will not be for sale, but just for her. I'm thinking shea, maybe olive oil and tamanu oil? Any other suggestions? What about eo's? :-* any help out thee? Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: Saffy1 on October 20, 2009, 04:19:37 PM Hi Lujos and welcome to the forum! :) congrats on getting all your stuff ready for business and Good luck with it!
If you look around the boards and the main site you'll find a heap of information and help. There are many topics that have already been covered so it's worth having a peruse. Catch you later! x Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: EJ on October 20, 2009, 05:01:42 PM Hello Lujos, welcome.
I think you're the only soaper from Spain here - there are few others from different parts of the continent. What are the Regulations like over there? Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: lujos on October 20, 2009, 05:23:09 PM Spain has the usual EU regulations, but very few are enforced, especially here in Andalucia. It is a much freer market than the UK, I believe, especially online. E-business is fairly new here, again, especially where we are. I know of one handmade soap company about an hour from me, but they are just a franchise operation.
It's interesting, but expensive - I have to import all my products from the UK, which adds terrifically to the cost of sales. I'm still optimistic that I can make a go of it selling online, but time will tell! Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: corrie on October 20, 2009, 05:31:40 PM Hola Lujos
Welcome to the forum, you really surprise me as I would have thought there was a lot of soapmakers in Spain mainly due to the abundance of olive oil. I have quite a few followers on my blog (which has been very neglected of late) that are from Spain, maybe you could check them out from there? (www.lomondsoap.blogspot.com (http://www.lomondsoap.blogspot.com)). Best of luck with your launch and I hope to chat to you around the forum :) Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: lujos on October 20, 2009, 05:44:52 PM @Corrie, thanks, I'll take a look at your blog. I agree, you'd think there would be more here! Not only is there olive oil in abundance, there is also loads of goat milk and cheap animal fat, if you are that way inclined soap-wise.
In fact, we live on a 22 acre olive farm, and make our own olive oil (see www.yunqueragold.com). I started making soaps and creams because we love OO so much, I had to think of more uses for it! I'm looking forward to getting to know people in this forum and exchanging experiences! I love the soaps and creams that we make, and I'd make them even if I never sold a single thing! It's really an addiction. Speaking of addiction, why did no one ever tell me before that it is so easy to get addicted to buying new FO's/EO's !? ;D Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: corrie on October 20, 2009, 06:09:59 PM In fact, we live on a 22 acre olive farm, and make our own olive oil (see www.yunqueragold.com). I started making soaps and creams because we love OO so much, I had to think of more uses for it! Seriously :jealous: of your set up there. It must be every soapmakers dream to use your own grown olive oil. I have a flat in Mijas, not far from you, though I don't think I've been to Yunquera, my parents live in Almogia. Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: lujos on October 20, 2009, 06:23:04 PM Corrie, that is soooo cool! Mijas is only about an hour from us.
It is so odd that OO is so expensive everywhere else - we sell it for only 8 euros a litre, so someone else is making some serious money out of the public! I don't even bother using the pomace for my soap - I use the extra virgin, food quality stuff for everything. Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: lujos on October 20, 2009, 06:23:56 PM I also want to point out that in my profile picture I'm playing the air guitar! Someone said it looked like I was yodeling, but alas, no! :o
Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: EJ on October 20, 2009, 06:24:54 PM Was wondering what you were up to!
Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: lujos on October 20, 2009, 06:30:14 PM OK, I accept that that picture looked a bit too freaky for a newbie on the site! Hopefully the new one looks more normal.

I spent a holiday in Mojacar a few years back, very nice (very hot!). I know of two Spanish soap makers, I follow their blogs (check mine out at ww.soaperstar.blogspot.com for details on them - I think one of them is probably on Corrie's blog too).
I have to ship everything from the UK and it does add to the costs .. but who could give it up now!!! ETA: The two spanish blogs: http://losjabonesdemaria.blogspot.com/ (http://losjabonesdemaria.blogspot.com/) and http://haciendojabon.blogspot.com/ (http://haciendojabon.blogspot.com/) Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: lujos on October 21, 2009, 10:32:18 AM Thanks to all for the information on soapers in Spain. It looks like a couple are actually Spanish (but quite far away from me) and the others are foreigners like myself. I've emailed one of the Spanish ladies to ask where she buys her supplies.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone! Title: Re: Hi from Spain - also advice? Post by: ks196 on October 21, 2009, 11:24:30 AM Hiya and welcome to the boards. I lived in Spain for a while between fuengirola and Mijas and still visit fairly frequently to see friends and I think you are right about the lack of soapmakers there, I can't honestly ever remember coming across any . Good luck with the launch of your webiste and I'll just sit here and imagine how nice it would be in the middle of my own olive farm, I was never that lucky and had a tiny flat whilst I was there.
