Title: Ludlow - Well worth a Visit
Post by: EJ on November 20, 2008, 01:13:32 AM
Ludlow Mediaeval Christmas Fayre (http://www.ludlowcraftevents.co.uk/xmasabout.html) is well worth a visit - there's a street market with some of the stallholders in costume, last year ther was a general craft fair just off the square and then there's the mediaeval stuff in the castle grounds.

Looks like fun EJ.  Pity it's so far from here!

I had a good look through all the exhibitors. And it seems that Stagman Creations have got Chris Moyles modelling for them.

It's the sort of fair I'd love to have a stand at (don't know what it costs though). Costume would be no problem as Costume Company UK (http://www.costume-company.co.uk/index.html) are based down in town.

The owner was married in a nearby village (http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/ejones/wed/) and Child was a bridesmaid, they were close friends at the time.

I love Ludlow, my firend Murri lives there and before I met Mr S I used to go every weekend. Such atmosphere.

O, well urm, I may just have to plan a visit to Murri's place. I don't know how she gets away with it. Grr

If we can make it I will EJ. It's a great show/fair and usually the quality of the crafts is ace.

It was a lovely day in Ludlow - cold but sunny (apparently fing freezing yesterday and the lads in full armour said it wasn't very warm inside their suits).

The woman with the not properly labelled soap was there - but far too many oohing and aahing customers around for a confrontation; but I did raise the issue with a couple of certified soapers. One of these (OH in attendance at the time) had very nicely coloured CP soaps, mostly with a single botanical on the top; the other was Shropshire Lavender (http://www.shropshirelavender.co.uk/3_for_the_bath.html) with all sorts of stuff, some her own and some by others. I'm going to buy some lavender from her - nearer than the Welsh lavender farm which she said is in Pembrokeshire. She did say I'd be OK using the lavender from Capel Rug if I make bath stuff for the chapel shop.

There was a stand with the sort of MP you can get from AW - no labels and some MP with no labels on the street market.

Sounds like a good fair EJ.
Don't often see people selling soap by the gram (2p per gram - Shropshire Lavender lady)
Isn't it such a shame that people get away with selling AW (type) stock and totally disregard the regulations. I'm sure as I get more experience at craft fairs I will put up with this less, I'll have to say something  :(

I have the Shropshire Lavender Co bookmarked. I found them when I was looking for culinary lavender through the Wire site.
Sounds like a good fair EJ. I have always been impressed with the standard of the craft tent at the ludlow event. I hope they're not letting their standards slip. Poor lads in their armour. I shall say no more.

Sorry - I was too busy looking to take photos; the Shropshire Lavender lady was very posh with headress, veil etc. Even outside the castle graounds on the street market the stall holders had costumes - even if it was a throw-over sort of thingy - I wonder if there was a sort of communal box that they could dip into.

BTW bought some lovely game pies from one stall - he'd been there yesterday and had only half a dozen or so left at mid-day today.
