Title: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 29, 2008, 02:57:07 PM
Hi everyone
A couple of years ago I took part in a swoap on UKS - we had to swap hair products - I think I made an egg & lemon soap bar  - (I found the recipe in one of my books) - and it was soooo exciting to get my parcel filled with 14 hairproducts - I know you have all just done a swap with Fresholi presents and the feedbck was fun to read. Would anyone fancy doing a swap - I don't mind having the stuff sent to me then packaging it all up - if I remember we all had to send 14 bars/items to one address with £5 to cover the postage.
If anyone fancies it or has any ideas?? ;D

;)Sounds like you have been on UK soaping again:)

PS. not the place to ask - but what does the dog (who look likes he'll go blind if he doesn't stop what he's up to) icon mean

I'll be putting up a post re the Hallwe'en one at the beginning of September.

WOW - am looking forward to those - they sound like fun!! Do you think we could squeeze one in before the halloween or not?

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?

Should be able to fit it in - say if you give people a fortnight to sign up and no more than four weeks from then to get them to you.

If you set a maximum weight for the product then when you have the number of names you can calculate the postage to be sent (which will include the packaging).

That sounds good! And what shall we swap? Shall we have a set theme....Our favourite soap / feet treats / haircare / face goodies / bath stuff ......or anything we like? Any ideas anyone? ;D

I did propose a swoap earlier in the year but have been offline for a while. I think there was a list of people who were interested in doing it, will have a look. I'm too buzy to do it but I am more than happy to participate  :)

Here are the people who were originally up for it....
Corrie
Sue G
EJ
Emma
Joy
Debz

What were you going to swap?

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: corrie on July 29, 2008, 07:57:00 PM
Soap  ;)

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: sophie on July 29, 2008, 08:09:58 PM
Would that mean we all end up with 15 bars of soap - sorry confused

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: EJ on July 29, 2008, 08:16:23 PM
Yup - well however many were in the swoap, on item from each person.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 29, 2008, 08:22:05 PM
If 10 people want to swap say for example haircare products - you make 9 of the same product and send them to the central person with some money to cover postage back to you - when the central person has received all 9 participants products then they will all be boxed up and sent back to the participants - when you open your box you will have 9 different items of haircare products - HAPPY DAYZ ;D Or if it is soap then you will receive 9 bars of different soap from various people - it is alot of fun!

Just out of interest, could you send X amount of any product (like some send bath bombs, some send creams etc....) or does it have to be one thing.  I know, dah....  but I was thinking, wouldn't it good to have an assortment of stuff.  Or is that what you were planning?   :mwaha:

Yep....if we had a swap that was 'send anything you like' that would be good - I think I'll send my favourite Lavender & Geranium moisturiser to everyone - it's quite Yummy :buttrf:

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: sophie on July 29, 2008, 08:58:32 PM
that sounds great - I will send jojoba shower wash

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: EJ on July 29, 2008, 08:59:08 PM
Just remember the postage - you pay twice and unless each person sends the same weight the stamps/payment received by the organiser won't tally when they're all being sent back out.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: sophie on July 29, 2008, 09:02:32 PM
I wash just thinking - 10 x £5 (retail value of product) £50 - postage etc

maybe not such a good idea - good in theory though:)

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 29, 2008, 09:04:54 PM
we are not talking about the retail value of the items!! only the postage costs! - it won't cost you £50 to send 10 bottles

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: sophie on July 29, 2008, 09:10:12 PM
you are absolutely correct, but I would make £50 if I sold them :)

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: purplesparkle on July 29, 2008, 09:21:57 PM
But this way you'll get lots of goodies to try.
I'm still in  :)

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 29, 2008, 09:24:59 PM
well depends what you want to get out of it....some dosh or lots of fun trying lots of fab things!! I personally am not the materialistic type :mwaha:
Have checked the post office website and you can send a parcel by standard parcel rate weight no more than 2kg for £4.20 - so I reckon the we may be able to do it for that? Depends how many people are interested!

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: sophie on July 29, 2008, 09:32:21 PM
;)Great idea in theory - but have to put business hat on - sorry count me out - good luck with it all - hope it doesn't cost you too much to distribute as Helen so wisely suggests.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 29, 2008, 09:44:24 PM
Right then - If  anyone is interested just say so on this thread by 2 weeks today (12th Aug) I will then PM all those who are interested with my address and the number of items for you to make and the date in which they need to be posted by with the postage amount - and then sit back and wait!!! I think it would be fun to make your favourite product for everyone - I think we would then get a real variety of products ;D Does everyone think this is ok?

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: corrie on July 29, 2008, 09:49:05 PM
Sounds great to me  ;D Is there a theme to it or just whatever you want to send?
Personally I don't care what it costs to post out. Sharing your products with others is a great way to get honest feedback and learn new skills. Not everyone is out to make a buck.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: Helen on July 29, 2008, 09:50:28 PM
I'll make this a sticky then Keilly  ;)

I just had a thought.  If anyone would like to review one or product each, it could go in Members Product Reviews in Community on the main site (with links to your sites of course).  What do you think?  Maybe Keilly could drop a name in each package of who's product to review or something like that.  Or would that complicate things?   :-\

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: sophie on July 29, 2008, 09:52:46 PM
Just a thought - to try and save on you having to post all this out.
If most people have a website - why not give each interested party a discount code, which would mean they get the item free and only pay postage

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 29, 2008, 09:54:26 PM
I think the feedback sounds fab!!
Corrie - I think it would be fun to send 'your favourite product theme' I reckon if this goes ok we could have themed ones after! What d'ya think?

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 29, 2008, 10:03:42 PM
Just another thought...Gordan Ramsey is looking for people to cook with him on the next series of the 'F word' we could join as the witches of soapwick :mwaha:

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: EJ on July 29, 2008, 10:04:01 PM
They only pay postage anyway sophie - but twice, once when posting in and sending a sum to cover the cost of the organiser posting back.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: sophie on July 29, 2008, 10:15:26 PM
Hi Elaine - so - I post (£2.50) for example a £5 product to someone with £2.50 for them to send onto someone else - it costs me £10.00 - after reading all the posts on the other forum most said it was more trouble than it was worth and that many who had expressed an interest didn't deliver.
take care

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: corrie on July 29, 2008, 10:21:30 PM
We have had several swaps before which have all been very successful and well received and everyone has delivered. They also create a bit of excitement on the forum when they are all shown off.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 29, 2008, 10:24:12 PM
I'm excited already..... :mwaha:

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: EJ on July 29, 2008, 10:27:52 PM
I very much doubt whether people here would consider the trade value of the products they're sending.

Also it could be an idea to put a limit on the number of people taking part; we had 5 in the perfume swap and that went very well - I don't think anyone on that swap thought about the cost of the product at all.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: Helen on July 29, 2008, 10:29:21 PM
So is will the reviews be ok?  ;D  I think it will be lovely to have something to refer to on the main site (but you will need to send me a pic of your product).  I am not making things too difficult am I?  Maybe if the review is put in a feedback thread, with a pic (of that can be emailed to me) then I can add them from there.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: Saffy1 on July 29, 2008, 10:33:27 PM
Sounds like a cool idea for feedback that's for sure and a great way to try out other's products!  I thoroughly enjoyed the Freshol Birthday one we did.  Totally great apart from the RM sagas!!!  All worked out in the end though!

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: Helen on July 29, 2008, 10:49:39 PM
Possibly not Keilly, I barely get the time to make one cream these days.  But that doesn't mean that I won't thoroughly enjoy sharing this with you all here.  I don't want to commit (sp?) to anything as I still have a lot more I need to do on the main site etc... that I have been trying hard to get finished before I went on holiday  :egad:  I hope you don't mind but I am kind of in, in spirit  :)

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?

I don't think I can join this one - corn dolly orders keep coming in and probably will until Harvest Festival time.

She could be Ruth knowing our EJ. Most people wouldn't know about Samhain, mind you there are a fair few pagans on here but I agree Spirit has a wider appeal.  :mwaha:

Not tried Bowmore I need to be initiated EJ, behind the tractors next month, OK?

OOO a welsh whiskey, that would be awesome, OK Pendryn behind the tractors.  :mwaha:

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: Naddy on July 30, 2008, 09:14:48 AM
I'm interested in the swoap.

The delivery and distribution seems over complicated though. In my opinion you need a central person to organise who swaps with who, but why can't we send the product directly to it's intended recipient. This would halve the postage costs.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: Helen on July 30, 2008, 09:20:15 AM
Hi Nadine,

Keilly is the central person and while it would be good to send to the individual, it would mean paying out for multiple postage which may work out quite expensive, if that makes sense  :)

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: lululiz on July 30, 2008, 09:26:36 AM
Woohoo, count me in on this one as well, please, I love the sounds of lots of different products. Just to recap then,

Organiser - Keilly

Number of participants - unlimited until 12.8. or limited to? ( up the the organiser?)

product type - whatever you fancy/are best at/like best lolol ?

weight limit per product - might depend on number of participants to keep it under the 2kg

postage contribution to organiser - £5

Ooh, this is all so exciting, I loved the perfume swap, I am stll using the lovely lovely perfumes I was lucky enough to receive

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 30, 2008, 09:30:50 AM
Good idea to recap LLL!
I think we may have to limit to 10 people to keep the postage down - I'll have a look back through the thread and see how many places are left ;)

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 30, 2008, 10:00:03 AM
Just to recap then (again haha)

Organiser - Keilly

Number of participants - limited to 10 (2 possibly 4 places left)

product type - whatever you fancy

weight limit per product - 250g maximum

postage contribution to organiser - £5

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?

Have I missed anything ???

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: EJ on July 30, 2008, 10:08:09 AM
If there's 9 x 250g in the parcel £5.00 won't cover it - 2250g would cost £8.22.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 30, 2008, 10:14:07 AM
Thats true!! I was thinking that maybe not everyones would weigh the max - mine will be about 100g, and hopefully if there are any soaps they may not weigh more than 140g - I will edit the recap to change the max to 200g - just incase -thanks Elaine :)

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?

I did Aquaculture which made me decide I would actually prefer to specilise in a more environmental career, hence trying to get a job with one of the District Salmon Fisheries borads. I am thinking about doing a masters in Enviroment Science in a few years time. Maybe sooner if I can't get a job lol

Just to get back on track again here, do you have a full list now Keilly or are there still some open places? Also, can you post a date by which we all have to send our stuff to you ( errm, haven't read back through the post, if its there already, smack me, lol )

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on July 31, 2008, 10:14:46 AM
So far we have......

Keilly
Purplesparkle
Joy
Corrie
Nadine
Lululiz

So we have 4 places left - the date for joining the list ends on the 12th August - so I reckon if things could be posted off the end of August that gives us a few weeks to make some stuff! Hows that sound?

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: lululiz on July 31, 2008, 10:38:25 AM
I might be better to bring the dates forward a bit, so that this swap won't be too close to the Halloween secret gift thing. Just a week or so or probably. But I am easy, lol, so anything is fine with me really.

Can you think of any 4 members that would be interested that may not have read the topic?

Mustn't forget the croap queen, she WILL be back from Portugal soonish, I think, well I hope, cos she is sorely missed, perhaps you could tentatively put her on the list and she can let you know when she gets back.

It would be FAB to have you in the swoap ;D

allo girls! Lots of catching up for me to do!

I'm up for this if there are any spaces left but, say someone was making a batch of soap, there'd be a curing time issue before it needs to be sent? I'm getting my soap back on (photos soon) but don't want to risk sending something incase someone keels over and falls down dead from my soap :mwaha:

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?

Hi there
Got you down on the list!!YIPPEE!!

We have until the 15th August - A few weeks to cure if it's made soon - we could always put a note with it to say if it needs a little longer before using it - and then it will be another few days by the time I've got everyones in and sent them back out - I think it'll ok

2 PLACES TO GO......

Well, look at it this way CR, if anybody keels over dead from using your soap you won't get any negative feedback.  :mwaha:

I'm sure it will be perfect. Stop fretting.

Nobody's been naughty in this thread yet. I suppose we could be to give H the practice at splitting threads.  :mwaha:

Was there a theme to this swap? Or am I thinking of the secret spirit swap. It's thursday and my turn to be blone.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: EJ on July 31, 2008, 05:39:27 PM
You're probably thinking of the Secret Spirit prezzie - a theme was pondered upon for this swoap but the idea discarded.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: Joy on July 31, 2008, 05:44:52 PM
That's OK then. I have my ideas sorted for the secret spirit swap so now I can get going on this. Whoo hoo.

Just a quick reminder to everyone the swoap deadline is tonight and we have 2 places left - just to recap....we are swapping our favourite products / to be posted to me by the 15th August with £5 for postage.
ANY MORE TAKERS?
I will email everyone on the list tomorrow morning with my address and details - thanks everyone! :ghug:

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: corrie on August 03, 2008, 10:24:16 PM
Just a quickie.....
I intend to make CP soap for the swap. Its not made yet so it will have less than 2 weeks to cure before being posted.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: Soheila on August 04, 2008, 06:59:25 PM
So - if I counted right (seven items to send, the whole box max 2kg) the item can weigh up to 280g. Packaging box etc will weigh some, too, but probably not everyone is making the maximum weigh thing so there should be room for packaging weigh, too. :)

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on August 05, 2008, 07:13:42 AM
Hi there
The max weight is upto 250g. But I think a few things will be less than that - my items are only about 100g so I think we will be within the 2kg limit
Corrie - I think if you want to put a message with your items to say when would be ideal time to use I think we could get past the curing issue there - does that sound ok?

....happy swoaping!!

Edited to add: I'm on my way out but I'll read the full thread later on, unless someone briefly summarises it for me by the time I get back ;)

OOps, I didn't even stop and think if it was soap only (assuming it was open to the whole forum) but now thinking about it, I can see it was probably meant to be soap given the name is SwOAP  ::doh:: :-[ Sorry girls if I've doubly messed it up  ::)  :mwaha:

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: lululiz on August 10, 2008, 12:33:23 PM
nooooooo, definitely not a soap only swap, read the thread, lolol !!!! It is for whatever you like making best or just like best, or whatever you want to send, lol. I think its great that it could be anything, can't wait to try out some stuff from the people who DON'T make soap

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: sarahlf on August 10, 2008, 06:59:01 PM
I saw the Swoap title and assumed it was soap! It did start off talking that way so I didn't bother to keep up with the thread.
Maybe next time.

you are soooooo lucky, getting to see everything first!

Oh before I forget, if at all possible, could you take a piccie of all the goodies together and post it here later? After everybody had their stuff of course, wouldn't want to spoil the surprise, just wanting to make the people who didn't take part, envious, lol.

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: keillys on August 13, 2008, 08:37:33 PM
Will definately post lots of piccies!!
By the way..one person has dropped out, so I have sent sarahlf a pm to see if she would like to join in as she had expressed an interest in this thread earlier on - but if not that leaves a place open...but you have to be quick!! ;D

Right gals, huge apologies for holding this up. As you know this week went pear shaped. The stuff has been posted now.

Sorry

() () () its alright, we understand

we don't mind waiting the extra week or so, sitting here, chewing our nails, tearing our hair out, having nervous stomach aches while Helen uses up the rest of the stuff which has been sent ON TIME, just because she can !!!

Go on LLL make me feel more guilty than I already do. I don't care, the whole world is against me, do I feel like I'm carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders?

Nah, do I hell. Well LLL you'll just have to enjoy sniffing the empty boxes  :mwaha:

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: lululiz on August 20, 2008, 06:07:52 PM
Helen might have left a smidgen of something in the boxes, perhaps a little soap flake or a dab of cream of something... if we are lucky

And you know I was only teasing, I know you are having a hell of a rotten time at the moment. If I could whisk you away from it all, I would!

Thanks LLL. Me and Ian both I think. Hanah is chattering in my ear non stop at the mo.  :mwaha:

Corrie I think its a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted, or in this case, posting the parcels after Helen has been at them, arrgghhh, I think we have to blame Keilly as well as Helen though, she should have hidden the goodies! She has been remarkably quiet regarding this issue hasn't she?  :pot: :whist:

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?
Post by: corrie on August 22, 2008, 07:23:35 PM
Yes, very quiet!
Hope she's not shaving off slices of the goodies for herself and H, they're thick as thieves them 2.  :mwaha:

This is OT but it is about sampling things. Out at dinner one night with friends we were at the coffee stage. Andrea took an after 8 mint out of the box. When she took it out the wrapper it had a set of teeth marks in it.
EEEEE WWWW

Title: Re: Anyone up for a swoap?

I know - am quite gutted by it!!
I did enjoy seeing foxes in the garden but now I know how ruthless they are - the day after they actually dug up the remains of my cat aswell!! I feel awful as I had booked in my brother in law to come round and build a proper enclosure with a run for them - but they got through my temporary pen and got to them before I could build something proper for them!!

OOOH...Have to confess I was trying things as they were posted to me - I just couldn't resist!! I'm also going to nip round to Helen and share some stuff with her - stuff that I have left that is!!  ;D
Just wondering if we need to start a new thread for the feedback and photos? I know Helen said she wanted feedback on individual products but where will that go? Also as we are reviewing products can we say the name of the person who made them :buttrf:
