Title: Greetings and Salutations!
Post by: Red on May 29, 2008, 04:11:18 PM
Hello there!

I've been looking round this fabby site for a wee while now, and have plucked up the courage to actually post.  Please be nice! Judging by what I've read on the forums so far, this is guaranteed as I've never seen such a lovely bunch of people, so welcoming and generous!

As for me...  I have absolutely no experience of making soap, but have recently become somewhat obsessed with the idea of making it, as I love using it, and have spent a small fortune on lovely smelly yummies.  I have a bit of 'the fear' about the whole lye thing, but I'm determined to give it a go.

Oh, and my name.  Everyone calls me Red because of my very very red (and very very fake) hair.  That and I've got a thing about fraggles...

So here I am.  Hello!

Greetings Red!

If you're not sure of anything or get stuck just shout - someone will be able to help (well up to now there's always been someone with an answer).

Hi Red  :hi:

Welcome.  I hope you really enjoy it here and have a lot of fun along the way while you're learning.

Don't be afraid - if you've read any of my old posts, I whinged & whined for a very long time before I was brave enough to have a go.  Once you get used to it you're fine, and as long as you're careful and follow the safety guidelines it's nothing like as scary as you think.  Just always remember to be very respectful of the stuff, and you'll be fine.

Oh, and if you're obsessed already and you haven't had a go yet............. :egad:

Ladies, we're taking over the world  :woohoo:

Hi Red
welcome!
Like JJ says follow the safety guidelines & you'll be fine, I was terrified during my first batch, but really soapmaking is great fun & you get a lovely end product (& an awful lot of it after 6 months of making it, ask me how I know  :mwaha:).  Just take your time to read up about how to make it first.

Yes, this lot are welcoming, generous &...... barmy, but a lot of fun :mwaha:

()Hello and a big fat welcome.

You will be fine, it sounds far worse that it is.... careful though, I am given to understand that it's addictive!

Personally, I am sulking this weekend as I have not got enough Pal and coconut oil to soap.

Big tip, make sure you order enough, I only went ofr 500g, and should probably have ordered 5 times that - of course, I'm not addicted. :mwaha:

Hi Red,

Welcome to the group! This is a really nice and friendly forum with fantastic people on here, so grab a cuppa and have a browse around.

Don't feel any question that you have maybe silly, because we all had to start at the beginning once. :)

Cheers Sharon

Thanks again for all the lovely welcomes!  It feels like I haven't been back for aaaages. Unfortunately work got a wee bit chaotic and as a result, when I got home all I did was sleep!  Didn't leave much time for anything, however, I did make my first ever soap - a melt and pour, no lye for me yet!  It was surprisingly easy, and the soap is wonderful, even if I do say so myself.

And I found a lovely handmade soap stand in the local shopping centre, Isle of Bute soaps, although I don't live on Bute unfortunately.  If there's anyone on here from Isle of Bute soaps, your lovely cherry loaf with hearts is absolutely divine!

Hopefully I'll be able to hang around a bit more from now on.  At least, that's the plan!

Unfortunately no.  With two sisters, a mother and the OH's mother, plus all the girlies at work, it disappeared before I could even think about taking a pic!  And I never thought it was that impressive, but it's amazing what the word 'freebie' can do!  It was a clear base, and I put lavender eo and some dried lavender through it, which didn't go quite as well as I was planning, but still...  Basically I'm skint but was itching to have a go so I decided to use what I had lying around the house (not the base, but the rest of it).
