Title: fragrance oils/colours Post by: dahlia on April 03, 2013, 10:36:57 AM Good morning all!
I am going to be making soap with a class of 10/11 year olds later this term. They are going to sell the soap at the Summer fair and hope to make a bit of profit for the school. I have had SO much help from the members of this forum and I'm just wondering if I can take yet more liberties and ask if anyone has any fragrance (not essential) oils or colours they no longer need or want. We have a very tight budget but would be happy to pay postage costs, of course. I have never made soap before but I've sent away for a kit to have a practice before we do it in the classroom! Wish it would hurry up! Have you checked that you're covered with insurance for this? Unfortunately, I cannot send/donate any. An Post (pstal service here) will not permit liquids for international destination. Yes, members of the forum told me about the safety assessment and it's in hand! Thanks for that! Title: Re: fragrance oils/colours Post by: Nell on April 09, 2013, 07:01:19 PM Hi dahlia,
have you though about making Tudor soap balls instead? It would fit in with the ks2 curriculum. All you need to do is chop castille finely and mix it with herbs and lavender water. It's so much safer for little fingers, easier to police and does not require SA's. I used to do it as part of the tudor package as a historical interpreter. They can still sell them as they make really nice wash balls. Have a look at http://sallypointer.com/soap-perfume-cosmetics-pages (http://sallypointer.com/soap-perfume-cosmetics-pages) for more info. Hot soap or lye can be a H&S horror in the classroom. Title: Re: fragrance oils/colours Post by: dahlia on May 09, 2013, 08:54:31 AM That's a really good idea for next year, Nell! Thanks!
I'm beginning to wish I had never agreed to this. I'm just going to find the appropriate forum to ask yet another question about regulations! |
