Title: Shampoo Bars
Post by: gracefruit on April 22, 2008, 07:21:11 PM
Does anyone make syndet shampoo bars?  While cleaning the bathroom today, I threw out FOUR empty shampoo bottles!  That's just too wasteful.  I'd like to buy some bars that don't require packaging.  Sadly, I'm not keen on soap for my hair and would really prefer a syndet.  Please don't make me shop at L___! ;)

Hi Elizabeth,
I make surfactant based shampoo and I love it, but it can be a tad tricky just as soap can be. You need to find the best surfactand and I really like SCI dont ask me the full name right now as I can neither think of it nor spell it!!!!! mixed with another one called Sodium camphodiacite. Thes are the mildest surfactance known and make a super kind and conditioning YES conditionin shampoo.

You need to play with water up and down but about 30% surfactant is the way to start, I like to add silk and Panthenol which strengthens and lock in moisture to the hair. Once you have used your own shampoo you will never go back just like soap!!!!

Shout if you need any more help, happy to if I can.
Ray.

Ray, is it a bar that you make?  I'm interested in buying if you have any spare.

I tried making bars a couple of years ago and the fumes from the surfactants just about did me in.  I was worried I'd done myself permanent damage!

Beth No its a liquid shampoo, but bare in mind that SCI was actually develloped to be a solid synet bar, although i have never made a solid out of it, I have struggled to keep it liquid and make a thick cream shampoo.

Now I have had my ups and downs with it but that is just aethetics, even when it looked like vomit it was still a fabulouse shampoo, I am now close to perfecting it....I think, I am very happy to send you some to try.
