Title: MSDS
Post by: Karelle on January 25, 2013, 07:48:50 PM
Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and am trying to find a MSDS for either coffee beans or ground coffee.  I add the ground coffee beans to a basic olive oil and palm kernel soap base to make a gentle exfoliating kitchen soap.  I have recently started selling my soap (yes, I am certified and insured) but can't sell this soap until I have the MSDS.

I have tried several supermarkets and coffee producers direct, but so far, no luck.  I also haven't had any luck on a web search.  I know a MSDS must exist somewhere, as loads of soap sellers use coffee grounds in the products they sell.

Can anyone help - I would be very grateful if anyone has one they would be willing to share with me, or if they could point me in the right direction.

Many thanks.    ::) ::) ::)

Hi there Karelle! What a beautiful name by the way!

You are most welcome.

I cannot help you with the coffee MSDS - But can you make up your own?? Others for sure will be along to help you! Since you are selling soaps and all that means you must have photographs yes??? So can we see a few of them in the Soapy Show Off Section??  ;D

Hi Karelle & welcome to the forum.

Re your question - msds often aren't available for food grade ingredients. You can make up your own for this type of ingredient - perhaps check with your assessor though. Then you could find one from a supplier for something similar, eg milk powder, & use that as a guide to writen your own.  HTH  :)

Hello Karelle, welcome to the forum.

As has been suggested the best thing to do is look at one of the regular supplier's MSDS for something foofy an adpt for coffee.

Welcome!

I made up my own, based on vague'-ish MSDS from 'similar' type ingredients (like herbs), and I modified them using what I know about coffee grounds.

Thanks to everyone for their very warm welcome and ideas about MSDS.  I shall have a go at making up one of my own.

It is very exciting isn't it.?

I shall be taking photos soon of my new batch of soaps, which I shall make available on this forum (just as soon as I work out how to do that!!).  Not only am I new to soap making and this forum, I am new to all forums and the like.  I am going to be setting up my business facebook page soon and will need so much help from my friends - I never realised how utterly useless I am at this supermodern technology!!!

Thanks again.
