Title: help in making candles Post by: soapsbylouise on December 08, 2012, 09:37:16 AM Would like a bit of advice regarding making candels. I have got most of it okay but having a bit of trouble with the double pour. I prick the thin layer of candle and then pour some more wax in. When the candle has set it leave a circle ridge on the top. it doesnt 'dip' in but is flat, but still leaves this circle. I use Soy wax. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Have you tried to let them cool out in a warm oven? By this I mean heating the oven to 50 degrees, turning it off and then putting the candles in it? Also, are you heating your containers before pouring? No i dont prewarm the cup first, but again I can try that.
Title: Re: help in making candles Post by: ChaChing on December 10, 2012, 11:07:05 PM I use my heat gun, or you could use a hot hair blower, (keep it far enough from the wax to not blow it out) & I just hit the top to smooth it out. Your 2nd pour diameter should never be wider than your first. I hope this helps. Have fun ;)
Title: Re: help in making candles Post by: itunu on August 18, 2013, 06:29:00 PM TIP: Be SURE your candle is completely cool before you begin your second pour or you will develop another sink hole after it hardens! Depending on the size of your candle it will take anywhere from 6-16 hours before your candle is ready for a second pour. Heat your wax again. We use a higher temperature for the second pour because it increases the adhesion between layers of wax. Then stir it for at least a full minute. Then pour your second pour just a hair above your first pour. Pouring the second pour at a higher temperature than the first pour allows the first and second pours to bond, making it impossible to tell that there was two pours done on the candle. Re-pour to a level that just barely covers the wax from the initial pour. Going to this level helps hide any seam lines. Don’t put lids on (if the container has a lid) for at least 3 hours.
