I am a very amateur cold process soap maker. I just discovered mica and would love to make nicer, more creative soaps. My first foray using amethyst mica did not work at all. My soap did not turn a pretty purple. Do I need to use a lot to get the effect I want? Fiona on here sells CP stable micas - Mica Moma is the name of her shop on ETSY. Learning about colouring CP soap in the beginning is something I will never forget! I was totally heartbroken time after time!! I eventually found what works and what doesn't!! Then I found here! I wish I was here before I produced the vast quantities of brown and grey sludge!! :mwaha: Well - Ultramarine Violet - worked for me - I got a lovely strong vibrant purple from it - but to colour a whole soap I think it is rather dull :-\ you can get CP stable colours from a number of suppliers GF being one - along with some lovely FO's and SPsh being another - but GF are pretty excellent on the service side of things - SPsh not great! I hope you enjoy yourself here - you can also have a look for ideas etc by looking at soapy show offs here!! @Lindy - I used about a tablespoon, but it was for a loaf. I would like to use pretty, appealing colors. I have seen soaps made with mica and they are pretty. Micas are cool. They are really versatile but colours do not always do what you want. That's why I got my own stash. :mwaha: With mica you sometimes need to use a little bit more. I usually use 0.5g per 100g of soap. So a heaped ish teaspoon for 1kg. |
