Title: Soya Melts FO ratio???? Post by: Sarah5 on November 16, 2012, 02:53:13 PM Ok so can anyone tell me how to work out how much FO to soya wax please so I can have a go at make these pleeease!
Title: Re: Soya Melts FO ratio???? Post by: Alphya on November 16, 2012, 02:58:13 PM Depends where the FO's are from, some places say 4%, some say up to 10%. Also some waxes don't need scenting as much to get the desired effect.
Title: Re: Soya Melts FO ratio???? Post by: retropants on November 16, 2012, 03:09:36 PM soy wax will need nearer the 10% mark, but don't overload it or it will spearate out :)

Title: Re: Soya Melts FO ratio???? Post by: Eire on November 16, 2012, 03:30:13 PM Some, I go up to 10%, most at 8-9%, cinnamon heavy ones I use at 7%. This will seem a tad low when melts are cold and hard, but once on heat the scent comes out much more. Depends on the scent really.

Title: Re: Soya Melts FO ratio???? Post by: Alphya on November 16, 2012, 11:27:34 PM I have some candle-only FO's, advised to use at 4%, and the smell fills my flat when I use melts :)
Title: Re: Soya Melts FO ratio???? Post by: Michelle on November 16, 2012, 11:51:18 PM I used to do 6-8% Fo.
But a warning here if you are using Essential Oils lower it to about 3-4. They are inflammable and some can make your melt spit when it gets hot. Title: Re: Soya Melts FO ratio???? Post by: thewaxworx on December 14, 2012, 08:57:47 PM Also, research the temperatures when using Soy wax, it needs to go to 82C initially and this is when you add the FO and dye, stir vigorously for 2 mins, then reduce the temp to 60C before pouring.
You can increase the amount of FO the wax will hold by using either Vybar (1%) or Sterain (10%). Again, be careful as you can't use Stearin in latex moulds as it rots it and don't use Vybar in a candle mould as it doesn't shrink and release from the candle mould. You can use either in tins or silicone moulds. Hope this helps. Andy The Wax Worx Title: Re: Soya Melts FO ratio????
