Title: Helo from a newbie
Post by: soapsbylouise on June 03, 2012, 09:34:54 PM

Hi My name is Louise and am a newbie to things soap making.  So please be gentle!. I will be asking questions about soap recipes.

I am interested in making soaps from scratch - from making my own lye, adding all different butters and oils etc.  I will be starting out with the MandP side to see how I go and then test them on my guinea pigs - sorry friends!.

So hello and nice to get to know you all

Lou x

Hi Lou and welcome to the Melting Pot. Enjoy your research, use the search feature here too, there's a lot of info. And buy your lye when you come to that part of soapmaking.

Hello Lou, welcome to the forum.
And buy your lye when you come to that part of soapmaking.
Yes do buy your caustic soda from a hardware shop or soapmaking supplier - making lye from rainwater and wood ash shouldn't be done without experienced guidance.

However there's loads of info on soapmaking (plus other stuff) on the forum and in Resources.

got all excited and thought Jon Bon Jovi had joined  :mwaha:
(that is him, isn't it?)
Welcome Lou, and have fun looking at all the info, if you are like me I stayed up til all hours the first few weeks (actually I still do) reading everything I could lay my eyes on ;D
I'm newish myself and the fresholites have been soooo helpful, so far I have made quite a few c&p different soaps, some went wrong at the beginning but I'm learning from every batch I make. I had started with m&p a few years back and built up the courage to have a go at c&p after seeing it on youtube (watched hundreds of videos) and getting lots of books out the library and buying a couple of books, I did join a few forums on yahoo but then discovered this one and everyone is super helpful. I quickly came off the other forums as this one is far more friendly and superior in all the collective knowledge, it way outshines the others.
good luck  :buttrf:
by the way a big thanks to Helen and the other moderators for starting/manning this forum.
