Title: Hempseed oil
Post by: abigailbalfour on March 20, 2012, 12:37:27 AM
Hello!

I have finally finished making the soap I have to give out on Saturday. Today's soap seemed a little, erm, moist, and I have not been impressed with its lather so far, but I shall give it time. It doesn't actually look like poo per se, but it also doesn't quite not look like poo. Exactly what one wants at a wedding.  :mwaha:

Anyway, to get to the point, I have a small amount of hempseed oil (probably approaching 200ml), left over, which I have decanted into an avocado oil bottle - it isn't 100% pure and will, I guess, have about 2g avocado oil within it. Not enough to worry about, I think, but not quite pure.  It only has an ins value of 39, so it should be used sparingly, anyway. Hey - maybe I used too much, which is why my soap was an absolute pain in the backside to get to trace...

Anyway, if anyone wants me to post it to them, they should pm me. First to pm gets the oil. No need for an address until I confirm I'm sending it to you. I don't need anything in exchange - we don't use that oil in this house, and it would be a shame for it to go to waste.

OT - Hemp oil makes a really, really soft soap, but if you give it enough of a cure time it does make a wonderful soap.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread....

Yes, I'm pushing it a little with nearly 10% hemp. Theoretically there's enough palm oil and coconut oil to keep things hard, but in practice, who knows? It has an INS value of 147, which should, theoretically, work. It's all theoretical so far, alas...

How much time do you have before the wedding?

Hi

I include hemp seed oil within my shampoo/body bars and do find that it takes much longer to trace than my soaps - but give it time as it does harden and lathers really well.  :buttrf:

i was going to add 3% hemp oil for label appeal. Is it known to cause DOS?

Sabine I haven't found it goes rancid on me.  In the soap I make with it I use 12% with a 5% SF and they stay nice for at least 6 months.  (I kept one aside to see what it would do).  It makes an amazing soap, but I do find it's a heater and if I'm not soaping cool I've had it volcano on me.

Hmmm, so it slows, down trace which is good, but might heat up (not so good, as i add sugar and milk to my soaps)
Will give it a try, the dos question was the only thing holding me back

There are only a few days until the wedding - it's on Saturday. It is a first-class croap, alas. Don't quite know how to break it to the bride, but will no doubt use my renowned tact.

It's OK. The bride took it really well. Actually, it's a lot less like play dough today, although it is still a funny colour. Very rustic, which is probably not what this wedding wants...
