Title: Hello! Another Scottish newbie!
Post by: Debz on March 05, 2008, 10:33:07 PM
Hi everyone!  :hi:

Have to say i am very glad to be here. I am new to everything - soap making, lotions and potions, even forums. I tripped apon your site whilst searching for info on making soaps and thought I would give it a whirl. It is a great site and I love how friendly and helpful everyone is.

To be quite honest I am at the "should I shouldn't I" stage ??? where I keep making ingredients lists and reading all the books I can get my hands on but  i haven't quiet got to the hands on stage yet. Hopefully that is all about to change.

Anyhoo, a bit about myself I think. I recently moved down from Scotland to the Midlands and married my wonderful husband. I have yet to get to know many people around here so I thought I would start doing all the things that I have always wanted to do. I now have 13 hens and 2 geese (who have just started to lay eggs wow!) and today I just finished building a raised vegetable bed. Next is a herb bed and making some lovely soap and lotions ;D  I'll tell you - my hands could really do with a lovely homemade hand cream right now after all that digging today :)

I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Debz

Hiya Debz
Another Scot! We'll be taking over soon  ;D
Plenty help available here when you decide to dip your big toe into making something. I make CP soap mostly but dabble occasionally in other stuff.
How you liking the Midlands? Where did you move from?
You'll like it here, very friendly (some mad) people  :mwaha:
Welcome  ()

Hi Debz   :hi:

I hope you enjoy it here (and yes, some of us are slightly mad before anybody else mentions it).  One teensy word of warning - soap is addictive  ;D
I love the sound of your hens, geese and veg patch too.  Lucky you.

P.S  Corrie beat me to letting you know about the mad people  :mwaha:

Where are you in the Midlands Debz, there's a few of us in the Middies.

A warm welcome to the forum and go on, you know you wanna, just make something for yourself this weekend (even if its kitchen cupboard stuff).  Luliz is right though, it does become rather addictive indeed.

Thanks for joining us and do join us in the non-cosmeholic board for a giggle or ten  ;D

 :hi:

Where in the midlands? West or East? And welcome to the nuthouse. Some of us are very good but there are a few really naughty girls about. :hap3:

If Joy thinks she's one of the good girls, there must be a low-flying pig warning on the weather news tonight.

She thinks new people believe she's a well behaved Fresholite  :mwaha:
They don't have to read too much to work it out for themselves!

welcome Debz :hi:

(it's true you know...they're all mad)

But if you enjoy getting strange looks from your OH when you're giggling in front of your PC....you've come to the right place!

Thanks for the kind welcomes - sounds like I should fit in just fine  :hap2:

I am living near Coventry now. Really loving it but have to say the lack of hills is taking some getting used to.

As to where in Scotland I am from - well I was born in Stirling and have since lived in Pitlochry, Blairgowrie, Glasgow and Dumfries and then back to Stirling again to study at Stirling Uni. phew! Hopefully I will manage to stick around here for a while  ;)

p.s. I am already getting the strange looks from OH. nothing new there!

Great news about the funny looks already.  Wait 'til you get the glazed look when you start waffling about making stuff.   Works every time.

Hi Debz
Nice to see another newbie at soapmaking like myself, do have a go, I took 6 weeks reading etc & then jumped in & now I make some every week, its great experimenting.
Not envious about the geese, we have some in our local pond & the boogers love to try & peck me so I usually stay in the car whilst the family feed the ducks, I must have geese bait written on my bum!   :-\

Hello Debz,

Enjoy yourself here - but don't let this lot corrupt you.

(actually they can be quite serious and knowledgable on their topic when they put their minds to it)

Helen is one of those naughty girls that lives in the East Midlands. No low flying pigs here.  :mwaha:

No well there wouldn't be low flying pigs around your parts, too afraid they'll bump into each other since one's lauched every other minute round your parts  :mwaha:

Hi I have only just started to use this site & get to know the strange (sorry nice people on it) but have already had a lot of help from them all. I am sure you will to.
I also have 13 hens and have just had my first fox encounter with them.
The making of soaps is so addictive as everyone here will verify. Just order up the basic ingredients to start with until you are more confident as it can be quite a costly hobby and don't forget to ask ask ask if you need help with any thing. :ghug:

Kim, I feed the fox that comes in our garden, I figure it keeps him/her out of the bins, but also I love seeing him/her most nights.  No chickens around here, that must be heartbreaking when it happens...

Forgot to add the Fox didn't kill any of them. The large hens (like big Geese) attacked the fox so only lost feathers.

Sorry to report H but Chatsworth strictly forbids the launching of pink pigs from any part of its estate.  :mwaha: Besides the wind doesn't blow in the right direction but if you go further south east towards Leicester it's perfect pink pig launching countryside, hence East Mids airport is down that way.

Sorry about the fox encounter. We don't have any chickens... yet but if I did have some I'd be gutted and I'm anti fox hunting as well but we've had fox hounds in the yard today as there is a hunt somewhere near here, they use the fields at the top and knock the walls down. They jump the dry stone walls when the gate is open. How dumb is that?

Glad no chickens killed.

poor foxy, leave him some food out it may detract him from eating them raw!  Large hens, do they peck like geese  :-\  as you may have read I have been pecked a few times!
