Title: hello cosmeholics Post by: nschafer on August 30, 2011, 08:47:54 AM Morning, lovely cosmeholics. Im new on here, and would like a little help. I am opening a shop, dealing with soap, candles and handmade products. I want the shop to be as natural as i can possibly be. Does any one have any web pages or recipes, with no additives, or natural additives in. I have been on numerous sites, like SK and the likes for recipes, I would really like a foot cream or salve. If any one has any ideas then this would be great. thanks for reading, nicola. :)
Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: Eva on August 30, 2011, 09:01:52 AM Welcome! There are loads of info on this site and forum that you may find interesting. :buttrf:
This is probably not what you want to hear but I think that research and understanding of ingredients is important. Then make tests of various products until you find something that you are pleased with. When you have a range of products you get them safety assessed and challenge tested (if it contains water) and you are good to go. So with other words it may take some time before it is ready for the store. Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: dizzybuff on August 30, 2011, 09:19:43 AM I Have to agree with Eva , as a new soaper myself you need to look into recipes and the legal side of soaping, if you are in the UK or EU there are alot of legalities that need to be taken care of before you can even contemplate selling. Safety assesments and getting that recipe just right take time, learning to color and scent the natural way also takes time. So in general its time to play and mess about and fill your house with goodies for your self and family before you perfect that recipe. Keep posting and as you do more and more on the forum will be available to you.
More so welcome to our little family , everyone is fab here and its my little sanctuary xxxxx Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: madpiano on August 30, 2011, 10:01:29 AM Hello
welcome to the board. But sorry to say, that a lot of us here sell our products as well, so wouldn't really want to give our recipes to a stranger. Also it isn't quite so easy to just mix and go. Plenty of regulations to look out for as Eva has already mentioned and depending on where you are based. If you want to start developing your own products and find a place where you can find help along the way while you are experimenting, you have found the right forum. Cheers sabine Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: dizzybuff on August 30, 2011, 10:05:01 AM As MP says , some of our recipes have taken a long time to tweek , formulate and get perfect, however there are some very good beginner books out there. Just search on amazon for soap making etc , Also have a look on you tube . Along with the Safety assesments dont forget your insurance . There are some reciepes on the main forum , but there are plenty on the net .
Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: Suzanne on August 30, 2011, 10:14:25 AM Hi Nicola. I echo what the others have said. You need to research your ingredients and learn how to make the products. You have to have an assessment to make you legal. Are you making your own products already?
Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: EJ on August 30, 2011, 10:46:46 AM Hello Nicola - welcome to the forum.
Do you already make soap and stuff (not clear from your post) 'cos if you do you'll be aware of the regs. which the others have mentioned. There are some recipes on the forum boards (you can see some of them - make more posts to get to Junior status and you'll see more boards). If you log in to the main Fresholi site then you'll find lots of info in Resources. Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: nschafer on August 30, 2011, 11:18:18 AM hiya, yes i already make creams, lotions and lots of other things, too many to mention, of which i sell, so i know all about assessments and so forth.

That is great! Then you can help with useful info for us too. :hap3: :buttrf:I am searching around for a (descent priced) challenge test place, where did you get yours and (if I may ask) how much do they charge per product? Where in the world are you situated? Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: dizzybuff on August 30, 2011, 11:55:43 AM LAmo Eva :mwaha: :hhijjack:
Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: nschafer on August 30, 2011, 11:57:22 AM hi, yes, i live in england. i have all my assessments form cosmetic safety assessments.com. They are very reasonable, you get your own safety advisor, if you have questions or problems. Alot of companies, will only allow you to buy their products of them, and you have to renew yearly, with this you can buy from anywhere in the uk and it is for life, hope that helps
Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: EJ on August 30, 2011, 12:05:09 PM Quote i have all my assessments form cosmetic safety assessments.com. Sorry nschafer. () Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: Helen on August 30, 2011, 05:06:02 PM Hi Nicola,
Welcome to the forum :) There are quite a few recipes on the main Fresholi site (look in Resources and Community) which may give a good starting point for a nice foot salve. Maybe a bit of tweaking of body butter recipe and the addition of tootsie-loving EO's could be something to start with :buttrf: Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: Menolly on August 30, 2011, 06:55:39 PM :buttrf: Hi, Nicola, and welcome!! :buttrf:

Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: Avril on August 31, 2011, 11:40:26 AM Hi and welcome....
Interesting re your shop, which area is it in.... you are brave opening a shop in this time of resession!!!!! good luck with your venture... :buttrf: Title: Re: hello cosmeholics Post by: nschafer on August 31, 2011, 11:47:51 AM hello all, yes i am a litttle mad, but i dont need to take a wage and it gets it all out of my workshop and house. I sell quite a lot as it is, so should be ok. As i make candles and sell other bits for bathrooms and candles. Thanks, have looked at the foot cream recipes, I always tweak any recipes, so they are not quite the same as everyone elses. I do have some ideas, as i only use shea, cocoa and mango butter, I dont put any additives in mine, so its basically like a shea whipped butter, but with some substance, was thinking of trying some with some beeswax, to give the density, alot of people buy lotion bars off me for there feet, so was thinking on them lines, a combination of lotion bar and whipped shea butter. hmmmm, will try later.I wasnt asking for personnal recipes as such, just to get an idea, i go on lots of sites, looking for ideas.
