Ruthin Produce Market (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ruthin-Produce-Market/102707336481331) has now moved from the courtyard of the old gaol (which was a lovely situation but getting very low footfall - as was the gaol museum) and will now be on the square in the centre of Ruthin.

Hopefully more potential customers - however T's supermarket on the edge of town seems to have reduced the number of people shopping in the centre of town so we'll have to see.

My other half went off to do Spitalfields market on his own for the first time this morning. We've done it together in the past but I got some freelance subbing work which I can't afford to turn down.

His mobile is turned off but I hope everything is going ok. What can possibly go wrong?!  ???  :o

I do hope there are more customers allround - otherwise there won't be a market next year.

Hope it goes well - sounds like it will be a better location for the market.

There's even an electricity supply for those who need refrigeration - sockets in the clocktower!

Littleswift  I didn't know you have a space at Spitalfields, how on earth did you manage that and it must be costing you a bomb? I haven't been to that market for ages, but I used to love going there for my lunchbreak when I was working in Brick Lane.

I've got our Forres Farmers Market tomorrow, unfortunately our local council won't entertain the idea of it being held in the middle of town so we're in a school playground a wee way away, not the ideal place & if things carry on the way they have been for some of the stallholders I can see it being abandoned next year.  :(

Weather forecast for tomorrow is broken cloud.

I did tell the organiser that the stall-holders ought to be in mediaeval costume (Ruthin used to have a mediaeval style weekly market at one time - even the bank cashiers and shopkeepers would be in costume).

He replied that he'd be quite happy to dress up but he wasn't at all sure of the stall holders; if the market continues I'll get myself a costume, either yeoman farmer's wife or the wise woman in the woods (hedgewitch) - if one person starts then others will follow.

Well it was certainly better for all the stallholders who were there - around the clock tower and two rows half the length of either side of the centre of the square (normally carparking spaces).

Anna Chocolate - who organises the FB page will be putting up pics this evening or tomorrow.

Coincidentally she'd been thinking along the lines of costume and was meeting with someone about it (probably The Costume Company in Corwen - they provide costumes for the mediaeval banquets in Ruthin Castle and also weddings).

Glad it went well. The town looks lovely, I'm sure it would be really effective if you were all in medieval dress, would grab people's attention!  :o

Perhaps you could go for a cross between hedgewitch and traditional Welsh costume with a stovepipe  hat!
