Title: Hello all Post by: Daven on June 07, 2011, 10:27:22 PM Hi, Dave here - just popping in to introduce myself. I am not a 'Cosmeholic' but have made a couple of stamps for members here so thought I would come and be nosey and maybe answer any questions about the stamps or laser cutting/engraving in general.
Thanks to Helen for letting me in ;-) Forgot to say it is thanks to Bonitta Graphics who started me off with the idea - thanks Bon x Dave Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Nature on June 07, 2011, 10:32:03 PM Hi Dave, nice to meet you, welcome :buttrf:

(possibly plus some non-soapy items for prezzies). Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Daven on June 07, 2011, 10:50:03 PM Hi EJ,
Thank you - I have not been doing the stamps long so would be interested in any feedback as I am always trying to find ways to improve. Also if anyone who would like to help me develop a cold pour mould (may even work for candles) let me know. Best Dave Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Menolly on June 07, 2011, 10:50:26 PM :hi: Hello Dave and welcome! Just off to have a look at your site!
Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Daven on June 07, 2011, 10:59:33 PM Hi Menolly,
Thanks ;) Dave Title: Re: Hello all Post by: EJ on June 07, 2011, 11:10:10 PM A base plate for a log mould - to give a relief pattern/design - is something I've often wondered about.
I'm assuming thet the laser cutter responds to greyscale for depth variation - am I right or wandering down the wrong track? Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Menolly on June 07, 2011, 11:11:58 PM A base plate for a log mould - to give a relief pattern/design - is something I've often wondered about. Ooh - I like that idea! I'm assuming thet the laser cutter responds to greyscale for depth variation - am I right or wandering down the wrong track? Some lasers may do but mine doesn't - it has a power control so you can dial in the power and get the depth you require accross the whole image. A picture ends in a sort of 2 diamention effect rather than 3D - if you know what I mean. Do you use something to help ease the soap out of the moulds? I was thinking about stacking acrylic sheets with the shapes cut out (the laser I have cuts to about 5mm in acrylic) but not sure if the soap would be strong enough to cope with separation. I can't see a problem if the bottom layer had a design as it is not a lot different to am upside down stamp. Best Dave Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Daven on June 07, 2011, 11:29:52 PM Hiya Dave nice to have you around ;D Thanks Alison, nice to be here - such a lovely welcome! :) Dave Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Eire on June 07, 2011, 11:37:37 PM Hi Dave and welcome. :)
I was on your site also a few days ago. I need a stamp or two. Didn't see much info or examples, understandable now as you're not long doing them. Would you mind telling in us which format you would need info, and any other relevant details that we need to know. Rose Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Daven on June 07, 2011, 11:45:31 PM Hi Rose,
Thanks I will be updating my website and will add a section just for soap stamps ;-) I can cut a stamp into acrylic using a laser cutter, all I need is the design or logo and the size you require which I will use to produce the stamp. I send a draft for you to approve the size before I cut the stamp. So far most logos reproduce quite well. If for any reason it doesn’t I will let you know before you pay. The price for a stamp for a normal size bar is £13.50 including P&P I take PayPal BACS or cheques, and my T&C's are on my website here (http://www.lasercutz.co.uk/?page_id=14) and an order form here (http://www.lasercutz.co.uk/?page_id=78) Thanks Dave Title: Re: Hello all Post by: EJ on June 07, 2011, 11:48:02 PM A base plate for a log mould - to give a relief pattern/design - is something I've often wondered about. A lining paper or film is generally used - there are acrylic log moulds and I understand these need a release agent of some sort. I have a slab mould in ?acrylic? with dividers and I put clingfilm on the base; I have no problem lifting out the dividers.Soap comes away from silicone with no problem. Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Alphya on June 07, 2011, 11:56:27 PM Hello and welcome :) There are a lot of people with a lot of good talents around here, other than soaping, and it's nice to add another one to the list!

As you can see we are very interested in your stamps and all the possibilities. And you wil get the chance to see your craft on our craft in soapy show offs. That should be quite a nice feeling. Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Daven on June 08, 2011, 09:24:57 AM Hi - thanks for the warm welcome :)

Many thanks - nice to be here :) Dave Title: Re: Hello all Post by: TerrisGold on June 08, 2011, 05:38:41 PM Hi Dave, a BIG welcome......................I'm off to have another look at your site, I'd love a stamp in due course. At the moment I'm very much a beginner and am still faffing about trying to get recipes, colours and fragrances right.................. Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Daven on June 08, 2011, 05:51:16 PM Thanks Terris,
No problems - I only started with the Laser October last year so I know the feeling ;-) Best Dave Title: Re: Hello all Post by: gillsta on June 08, 2011, 06:33:29 PM Hello and welcome to the site. :buttrf:

Dave Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Daven on June 08, 2011, 06:49:06 PM I get you - "shading" would have to be hatching. To have an outline to impress into a soap the laser would cut out the background outside the "line" and the inside. You got it - where the picture is black the laser fires where it's white it doesn't - all digitally that is, the picture is loaded into the laser - bit like the old dot matrix printers in a way. A lining paper or film is generally used - there are acrylic log moulds and I understand these need a release agent of some sort. I have a slab mould in ?acrylic? with dividers and I put clingfilm on the base; I have no problem lifting out the dividers. Excellent, thanks - I will have a think about this, could be various ways I may be able to make a mould with a logo. :-)Soap comes away from silicone with no problem. Do you do an L to R flip or would you require a mirror image? Yep I normally take the standard logo, convert it to B&W and then flip it normally using Iranview. Some picture also need a bit of tinkering - thickening lines for example.Best Dave Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Helen on June 08, 2011, 07:44:59 PM Hi Dave,
Sorry... I am late coming in on the thread to welcome you to the forum. I hope you enjoy it here (very lovely people ;)) :buttrf: Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Daven on June 08, 2011, 08:22:56 PM Hi Helen,
Many thanks - I am enjoying the forum, reading up on things I never knew existed (or being a typical male never thought about ;D ) Dave Title: Re: Hello all Post by: Helen on June 08, 2011, 08:41:46 PM Better watch out for some threads Dave.
