Title: Hello! Post by: Menolly on March 04, 2011, 11:26:14 AM Just popping in to introduce myself - this is a lovely forum, by the way!!!
I'm Pam, 54, married, with two grown-up stepdaughters, four grandkids and four Maine Coon cats. I am a spinner, dyer, knitter and weaver who has just discovered the delights of soap, bath bombs/melts/salts and candle making. Melt and Pour soaps at the moment but when I can set up to make CP safely I want to learn how to do that too! Look forward to meeting you all! Title: Re: Hello! Loads of info on the forum and in resources. There's at least one other spinner (think it was originally spinster) here and I've done a little - there's a craft exhibition board and we'd love to see some of your creations. Title: Re: Hello! Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Andy on March 04, 2011, 12:26:06 PM Hello and welcome!
I'm sure you'll have a good time with us lot. ;D Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Menolly on March 04, 2011, 12:30:15 PM Ooh, thanks for such a warm welcome!
I have been having a good look around the forum - you really are a wonderfully talented lot! Both I and my husband were made redundant in October last year, so Christmas was a hand-made one by necessity and everyone got bath bombs, woven and knitted stuff (really well received, actually - even the 6 yo and 11 yo grandsons loved the bath bombs!). Hadn't started the soap-making at that point but am now being mobbed for soap by the family ;D! We are finding it hard to get interviews - guess there are a lot of people out there in the same situation, lots of folk chasing too few jobs. So in between the job-hunting, we are crafting! I have my safety assessments for M & P and for Bath Products so am dipping my toe in the water at a couple of craft fairs - and have never been so nervous in my life, LOL! Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Nature on March 04, 2011, 12:58:18 PM Hello Pam, lovely to meet you.
You'll like it here! I'm a spinner and knitter too (and I'm going to admit to being the same age as well - but don't tell anyone!) :buttrf: Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Nature on March 04, 2011, 01:01:27 PM Oh I meant to say, good luck with your job hunting, but keep busy and keep positive :buttrf:

Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Esby on March 04, 2011, 02:07:55 PM Welcome Pam :)! I've found that kids seem to love bath bombs too. The job market has been like that here in the US also. But crafting is a wonderful way to make extra money that can possibly lead to full time (and more :)); It is so rewarding in many ways. So, not sure if I should wish you luck with your job search... or better yet, wish you luck with your new crafting business :).

Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Menolly on March 04, 2011, 03:40:19 PM So, not sure if I should wish you luck with your job search... or better yet, wish you luck with your new crafting business :). Funny you should say that............. I wonder sometimes if this was meant to be for both of us. My husband and I have worked together for sixteen years and in 2009, there was a disastrous fire at one of the two premises; that, coupled with the recession, finally "killed" the company. In the year since the fire, my husband was diagnosed with cancer and had a kidney removed - thankfully he was diagnosed really early and the cancer had not spread. But that, and the fire and the subsequent loss of our jobs....all these things have made us re-evaluate our lives and what we want to do. It is actually really rather exciting! Thanks again, all, for such a lovely welcome - It feels like "coming home"! Title: Re: Hello! Post by: alishelly on March 04, 2011, 04:13:30 PM A huge welcome from Derbyshire ()

Can't wait for pics of your cats as well.............. :joy: Theresa Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Menolly on March 04, 2011, 11:16:22 PM (http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h362/Menolly1956/IMG_1616.jpg?t=1299276280)
This is the entire crew - taken last October (ages are as at the time of the pix). Spike is the big black-and-white boy (26lb :o) 12yrs old. Whisper is the silver tortie tabby girl (she was always a "small" Maine Coon) and she was 13yrs old. The two "kittens" are Hobbes (Red Mackerel Tabby and White) who was 16 mths when this was taken and Paddy (Brown Classic Tabby) who was only 7 months old - we think that he is going to be the bigger of the two "kittens". Will post a photo of the two "kids" in their favourite place next! Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Alphya on March 04, 2011, 11:17:37 PM Oh! They are beautiful!!
Title: Re: Hello! Post by: TerrisGold on March 04, 2011, 11:19:29 PM They're GORGEOUS, were they waiting for food? Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Menolly on March 04, 2011, 11:20:52 PM (http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h362/Menolly1956/IMG_2374.jpg?t=1299276280)
Hobbes and Paddy adore playing in the sink - we have had to take the spigots off the taps because although they are both very good at switching the taps on, they can't seem to get the hang of switching them off again! I can't believe how big these guys are, especially Paddy. He is a really husky cat (had his 1st birthday last week) whereas Hobbes is longer and leaner. They are definitely best buddies though, which is really nice. Theresa, yes, I had a bag of cat treats because we wanted a shot of them all together and that was the only way to get them to "line up" LOL! Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Alphya on March 04, 2011, 11:24:50 PM Aww, they are really lovely, must be gorgeous to cuddle with!
My two girl cats love the bathroom sink, and are endlessly fascinated when I turn the tap on :) Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Menolly on March 04, 2011, 11:33:07 PM Awwww, Alphya, she is so cute!!!
All of ours find water going away down the plughole amazing. We had a brown tortie tabby Maine Coon called Gabby (she was our first, sadly she died a little over a year ago, aged 13 :( ) and she would sit on the edge of the bath when I was in it, playing with the bubbles. Hobbes seems to find that frankly horrifying and won't come near it when I'm in there bathing but is quite happy to slide up and down in the empty bath. Title: Re: Hello! Post by: halfabubbleoffplumb on March 04, 2011, 11:38:22 PM welcome, Pam!
Title: Re: Hello! Post by: TerrisGold on March 04, 2011, 11:39:08 PM Hobbes and Paddy are so lovely - loving your coloured tiles as well :mwaha:
Alphya, your cat is looking a tad too innocent....................one of my cats loves the sink as well, but I haven't taken a pic. She loves to sit in unusual places Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Alphya on March 04, 2011, 11:41:56 PM Aw I'm sorry that you lost Gabby. I understand how horrible it is to lose a cat, my first cat died suddenly, he was very young, but it still chokes me up to think about it.
Terris, the amount of fur that I have to clean out of the sink is ridiculous! My boy cat, Onyx, likes to drink bathwater, so I have to be careful if I'm using salts or bubblebath. He's got this condition called 'Pica', which means he likes to eat random things off the floor, stuff that's not supposed to be eaten! Here he is, trying to play the xbox. Title: Re: Hello! Post by: TerrisGold on March 05, 2011, 12:02:11 AM Alphya, What lovely colour eyes Onyx has got, and such smooth sleek fur. Aren't cats just the greatest...............although I'm a dog, donkey, horse, rabbit, guinea pig and all things furry, lover as well.... ;D Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Alphya on March 05, 2011, 12:11:33 AM Thank you :) Onyx is such a soppy cat, loves cuddles. I like to think I look after him well. I am definitely more of a cat person, but I love all animals :)
Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Menolly on March 05, 2011, 09:14:29 AM Beautiful cats, Alphya. Paddy is definitely a cuddle-cat, always has been. Hobbes will submit to cuddles and then is off - "places to go, people to see, looms to sit on, yarn to play with".
Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Janie-aka-Selkie on March 05, 2011, 09:52:37 AM Hello, and welcome to the forum!! Love your cats, always had a soft spot for Maine Coons myself, hope to have a couple one day (but husband says the 5 cats we currently have is enough, what do men know tho eh?) lol Title: Re: Hello! Post by: Suzanne on March 05, 2011, 11:20:41 AM They are lovely. I like the paw on the tail.
I wish I could get a photo of all mine together - not a chance though. Here are three of them - the two black and white cats are Lily (left) and Mia who are sisters, and the ginger things is Fidget playing at being a meercat! Title: Re: Hello!
