Okay, silly question.. if I put the wick in, with the little metal disk on the bottom, before I pour, the heat of the melted wax melts the wax around the wick, so it flops over and falls into the liquid wax.

I know some people use metal wick pins, then remove the candle from the mould, before threading with a wick, but does that really work for tealights? Doesn't removing them from the cups and putting them back make them look funny?

I get 2 chopsticks, hold them together and then bind each end with elastic bands. Do it so they are quite tight but there is still some give when you pull them apart. Lay them across the top of the candle 'pot' (I use a glass for my candles) then pull the wick up thru between the 2 chopsticks so they hold it in place. Leave them there for the 1st pouring, then remove when set for the top up pour  :)

Sadly no, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have the 'temperament' for the job anyway, I just love fixing random problems and making stuff, my husband calls me Flint, but most people don't understand why  ;D

I also use chop sticks cocktail sticks and even small skewers.

i've ussd selotape. But for a tea light i wouldnt think you would need to!
Do you use a glue dot to stick the wick in place first?

Glue dot first, then I use a clothes peg. This only works, obviousy, if the container is smaller than the length of the peg, so tea  lights should be ok  :mwaha:

Oh I have candle glue which is quite good you get it at SK

I use a splodge of pritt stick  :)

Glue dot first definately. You can buy little sticks with the elastic band if you are not very Blue Peter.

Thanks for replying everyone :) The little metal tab is staying stuck to the bottom of the tealight cup, it's just the wick that goes all bendy and flops into the wax. I think I'll have to wait until they are fairly cool before I put them in.

for tea lights, I would think 2 toothpicks elasticated together would do the trick, I wouldn't advise putting the wicks in after the pour. (did I get the wrong end of the, er, stick there??)

Some of the candle supply places have mini skewers for this. They work well are cheap and re-usable.  :buttrf:
