Title: how do I get started
Post by: Avril on December 23, 2010, 06:54:26 AM
Hiya candle makers,

I am interested in making candles, I did go on a one day course last year, but have lost the notes etc....and it was such a long time ago that I have forgotten what I learned !!!!!  anyway from your experiences which is the easiest base to use, parafin or ecosoy....I realsie you use sterin ( think I spelt that wrong) with parafin wax....

any suggestions on the best route to get started and which products to buy very much appreciated... ???

I am by no means a candle expert but I've used both ecosoya 135 and advanced, no dyes. the 135 sticks to the glass (if you're using glass) very nicely but tends to bloom with some FOs - the advanced leaves (usually) a lovely top but is made to pull away from the sides to give an even look - I have found that that isn't the case. It pulls away but leaves "bubbles". I do need to try to pour the advanced when it's "slushy" to see if I get a better result - next year! The 135 supposedly has a better scent throw but I haven't tested the two side by side yet. Sorry, not a lot of info...
