Title: How to clean micca off? Post by: Andy on November 09, 2010, 12:58:05 PM I've been struggling. I use it in greasy products like lip balm and the utensils I use for making batches never clean off of this glittery stuff!...
It's driving me nuts... Any tips? I usually soak it all in very hot water, give it a scrub, and then dishwasher - but it's not working... ??? Thanks! Title: Re: How to clean micca off? Post by: Eire on November 09, 2010, 01:06:52 PM I do the same as you Andy, but before using again, I clean everything down with alcohol/surgical spirits. Try to limit the amount of utensil coming in contact with the product once you've added the mica. Then wash those seperately from other utensils before putting everything is the diswasher. I know the stuff can be a pain on clean up, it's a case of limiting it's spread and contact, making life a little easier for you.

I'll treat micca like flu virus N1H1 from now on! (good point about the spreading...) Title: Re: How to clean micca off? Post by: Eire on November 09, 2010, 01:21:51 PM Some hate the smell of surgical spirits, I love it, not that I abuse it or anything. :D I keep it in 2 types of bottles, one is a plunger type, so I can just put cotton swaps on top and push down, no mess. The other is a big spray bottle. Therapist thing maybe, everything gets wiped down with surgical spirits.
For utensils I find it good because, even after all the washing, sometimes there can be a little residue, esp. after anything with wax, It cleans it off really well, it just looks a different kind of clean to me. Eire - you're so funny! I find the smell a bit sickening sweet... Elaine - where do I find isoprop wipes? In Brazil, we can buy grain alcohol (from wheat) in any pharmacy, I used to make my own perfume, but here, no chance!... Then, there's the other 96oGL alcohol for cleaning, in gel type. Shame I can't smuggle some in my luggage!!! 8) Title: Re: How to clean micca off? Post by: EJ on November 09, 2010, 02:51:39 PM Quote Elaine - where do I find isoprop wipes? You can get containers of Isopropyl Alcohol from Maplins (it's used for cleaning elictrical components and contacts which need to be free of grease and oil) and use with a tissue. The wipes are available from medical supplies places e.g. http://www.medisave.co.uk/azowipe-hard-surface-bactericidal-wipes-tub-of-200-wipes-p-6987.html (http://www.medisave.co.uk/azowipe-hard-surface-bactericidal-wipes-tub-of-200-wipes-p-6987.html) Title: Re: How to clean micca off?
