Title: Dried Orange/Lemon Peel
Post by: nakedtruthbeauty on October 27, 2010, 06:19:23 PM
Does anyone know where I can buy this fast! The lead time from the supplier I have is too long. Or does anyone have any they fancy selling or swapping? I'd prefer orange, but lemon would do. Thanks in anticipation.

Modified: It's the fine cut stuff I want, not powder or whole pieces, it's for a scrub.

Baldwins sell orange and lemon peel, but there is no photo so I don't know whether it is fine but or not.

I posted about this a while ago NTB - one of my "thrift" posts. I basically bought dried candied peel - steeped in water to get rid of most of the sugar, then dried out in the oven (very slowly) until the peel was hard - then blitzed in a food processor - got a load of really nice citrus peel for a fraction of the price you would normally pay.

The last lot I got was named orange zest, it was in the food section of a local shop, it is a 25 gram box and I think it was 99p. I just bought it there to save shipping fee's.  I am not sure how that compares to online prices.

Thanks all. And the candied peel method would be alright for my SA, Scott?

Yes - fine for SA - one thing that should be mentioned (I could have PM'd you but I think it's a good point to share) - if you include botanicals in a scrub, the salt/sugar will preserve well, but it's always a wise precaution to advise customers to keep (as far as possible) excess water out of the product.

Ah, good point Scott thanks. That's already on my scrubs even without botanicals in.
