Can some one put me straight on this question please.  I have heard that soy wax damages silicone moulds, is this true??  If so how do you prevent it.

No, paraffin wax damages moulds made of silicone or latex if stearin is added. Stearin is an additive used to harden paraffin wax and it's an acid, so it will eat away at the moulds.

No problems with using soy wax in silicone, I've never heard of that...

Soy pillar blend will also damage silicone moulds.

I've scoured the internet and can find no reference to this. Do you have a source?

It's due to the additives in the pillar soy. There's many references to it on the CSNS forum, any experienced candler would know.

As any 'experienced' candler should, I have found evidence to back up my claims and not just by what people say on another forum either...

I contacted NGI who manufacture Ecosoya and asked them which additives they contain and if they will damage silicone moulds and this is their response:


So it would seem we are ok to use soy in our silicone mould after all.

I wasn't just going from claims from what people say. I was going from my own experience, i have been making candles for ten years. And i also repspect the other people, on the other forums opinions as they are well respected long term professional candle makers. I would rather not risk my moulds i've spent a fourtune on them.
