Consumer beauty brands are set to participate in the largest-ever green show to be staged in the UK in May. London Aware 08, which is scheduled for May 10-11 at the Barbican in London, is expected to attract 12,000 consumers.

The exhibition, which is organised by social enterprise UK Aware, aims to demystify the myths around green shopping and green services.

Founder of UK Aware, firefighter Danny Carnegie, said: "We've had enough of reading about it and feeling guilty. We want to know what we should be doing to ensure the positive future of this planet while getting on with our lives. We've assembled the most comprehensive definitive list of exhibitors and fused them with most pioneering brands in the environmental movement. It is a mixing pot of authors, music, shopping, food, media, travel, health and beauty and even comedy."

Currently two consumer beauty brands have signed up to the exhibition, the Organic and Natural Enterprise (ONE) Group and Male Organics.

Sally Wade, the UK ONE Group representative, said: “It’s the first exhibition of its kind in London and it’s a great idea. Hopefully it will attract lots of environmentally friendly companies and green consumers. I’m hoping that this will help to drive the beauty industry towards developing greener products. There are enough chemicals available, so we can afford to take away some of the synthetics.”

Wade added: “Unfortunately going green does cost beauty and cosmetic companies more but I think it’s worthwhile. If consumers demand greener products then hopefully this should drive the prices down.”

Carly Thornton from UK Aware, said that the organisers were expecting more green beauty companies to sign up to exhibit over the coming weeks. “It’s still early days and companies are still approaching us about exhibiting. It will be the biggest ever green show to be staged in the UK and we’re very excited about it
