Does anyone on here make soy candles scented with EOs? I'm after buying a few for gift sets and thought I'd try here first. I want them votive size but in a clear glass container (so large shot glass sort of size I guess).

I make them but it depends what Eo's they can be a bugger to wick and usually smell stronger when unlit. So I usually do the Eo ones for me when I do em as candles. Soy wax melts fragranced wit Eo's is another matter entirely though, they smell lovely

Im sure theres someone  on here who has got it down to a fine art

NTB, I don't make candles so take this with a grain of salt. Smiley Many of the EO candles have eo for label appeal, but also contain fo for the scent to carry. I've been reading about candles for a while, may get round to them one day, but many of the chandlers I've spoken with have said the same thing, eo are not great in candles.

Slightly OT ... Eire is there an issue with selling candles in Ireland? Insurance wise specifically? I'd like to get into it but not if insurance is billions.

Its true in my experience. You have to be careful as Eo's are more volatile than FO's. Plus your percentages in candles can be 8%% get s pretty damm expensive.

Insurances went down on a lot of things 4-5 years ago, but I believe candle making still has quite high premiums. If you go back a few years ago, it was aound 6,000 Euro's, but it may be way less than that now. Kidd Insurances in Rathmines might be able to give a quote. But you would also need to check how it affects your building and contents insurance. You may be be better getting your PL in the UK, but do check if it will affect B&C.

Yip, me too with the EO. I liked the candles I made but the total cost was just under £7.00. I douby I would get much more than that at a fair, so for me they are not worth the hassle, but I' do them for home, and I'll be starting them next year for the website I might up the price  Grin

Thanks for all the help guys. I knew EOs were tricky, that's why I was hoping someone else could do them  :mwaha: Ok, I can make FO ones myself, so I'll do that (in my spare time LOL!).

I made EO candles whilst they smelt lovely the scent did not carry, I much prefer FO ones.

I made Mum a soy candle with neroil (I had a bit of spare cash at the time). The scent trow was lovely, and I much prefer EOs to FOs.
