Hi,

Up until now I have been using light olive oil bought from the local supermarket for my soaps but now need to find a supplier.  Any information as to where you buy yours from would be great - thank you  Smiley

Going to be honest here, I've obviously looked into stocking it but I put my hands up and say that at present, I cannot compete with the likes of Asda etc....  I know a soaper (who makes a LOT of soap) who buys it by the 5ltr at very reasonable prices from the big stores - this doesn't help you much I know but it is something to keep in mind  Wink

Thank Helen - the reason I have been buying from the supermarket is that the price has been really reasonable and I just love the light olive oil, but my worry was the MSDS data sheet as I understand that I need it from the supplier and to be honest I wouldn't know where to start in requesting it from a big supermarket chain  Huh?  Or may be I am wrong on this?  Help!!!

MSDSs are written from the safety angle of handling and working with the substance and all the ones I have for food-grade ingredients are full of "N/A"s. In fact one major soapmaking supplier (who had been a H&S bod) told me that MSDSs are not required for foodgrade stuff - and doesn't supply them.

When I asked my assessor what to do about an MSDS for honey from local beekeeper he replied "Write one yourself".

Thanks Elaine.  I guess then as long as there is a batch number on the oil I buy from the supermarket and I keep the receipt and log it in my file it should be a sufficient enough audit if anything were to happen with my products (heres hoping it won't!)

To a certain extent it will depend on whether your assessor wants to see the MSDSs of your ingredients - from what I've read around the place some do and some don't.
